**. Easily the worst meal our party of 5 has had in recent memory. 2 of us had the fish and chips and the fish had a very odd unpleasant flavor while the tarter sauce was definitely spoiled . The green beans that came with the lamb dinner were grey and looked and tasted as if they had been on the steam table since yesterday. The mashed potatoes although made from real potatoes were room temperature and cold when the meals arrived at the table. The worst dish we had was the Penne Saute... very overcooked flavorless pasta mixed with what appeared to be a green salad that has been warmed to wilting. It included chunks of broccoli that were vivid yellow because they were clearly already spoiled and well past their serve by day when they were included in the dish. When broccoli is no longer green and has turned yellow it should be thrown out not salvaged to serve to customers. We have been coming to this restaurant for several years and noticed that the parking lot was unusually empty when we arrived today. Now we know why. I attached pictures to their google page of the food we were served to show the sort of quality they are comfortable providing and help others not waste their time or money at this place. I did eat a few bites of the fish before I decided that yes, it was definitely slightly off and that I should not continue eating it . Those few bites may have been enough to make me sick because I am really not feeling well now. If I get food poisoning I will not be surprised. No one at our table was able to actually able to eat the meal they ordered. Across the board they get a D- for no quality control and for salvaging produce and fish that should have been thrown out and not served.. absolutely DISGUSTING meal .. (but is it a meal if you don't actually eat it?)
Update; it's 2 am and after a few hours of stomach cramps I have started vomiting. I will be contacting my Dr in the morning to verify food poisoning and pursuing this with the health department.
**Amy in reply to your reply; I think you must have us confused with another party that had complaints about your food... no one in our party finished their meal. The Penne Saute was hardly touched,, the baked cod was left half eaten (hers wasn't actually spoiled, just not good and she ate about half the fish and left the cold potatoes untouched, the lamb dinner was brought home in a to go container to feed to the raccoons who vist the compost pile regulalry and who amuse the heck out out of us. The gentleman who ordered the other the other fish and chips dinner ate a few bites of fish, decided it was off, and like me ate only the fries. Our table did not have any other medical concerns or receive any sort of help from your staff and no one phoned to thank you for anything. I just phoned to try to speak with you but you declined so i am adding this addendum to the review in reply. We are all still in shock at how truly bad the meal was. Like i said, we have been coming there for years, and we did not make a huge stink about it because our family does not get together very often and when food is reordered and replaced it still throws off the others in the party as the replacement would not arrive for at least 20 minutes and since every dish was rock bottom terrible it was unlikely the replacement would be better. Also, it is the fault of your kitchen and management and we did not want to put a further damper on the day than your terrible food already had. We also don't believe in harassing a very pleasant waitress who has no control over your cleanliness or food prep. We are all in agreement to never return. I have filed a complaint with the health department and your inaccurate reply is not appreciated but I can see why you would say those things as bad reviews follow a restaurant for a long time. I will.also point out that the good reviews were earned for the most part by the previous owners. You earned every bit of this review. I lost a night sleep vomiting from spoiled fish. Your reply is a farce and just a cheap attempt to cover your...
Read moreEveryone has hobbies right, everyone has something they like to use their extra money on, well mine is dining. I love to dine in a nice restaurant. I've been in many restaurants within nearby towns and even a couple fine dining restaurants and spent a pretty penny only to find the service to be slow, not getting what you expected, temperature of food not being hot, waitstaff not checking back to see if you need anything. Well Hanks's does all these things ""right"" and with a ""smile"" ""every time"" I go there, and I've been coming here since I was a kid (and I'm quite old now). Why, cause the all the workers at Hanks really really really care about the customers. And you'd know that if you dine at Hanks. And the atmosphere here is so comfy, I need them to come to my house and make my house feel so comfy looking and comfy feeling, and maybe they'll cook for me while there here lol. Also there is a salad bar, there are not many restaurants with a salad bar, which is perfect for someone like me who only wants one mushroom, one pepper, one onion, one piece of spinach, one cucumber, 3 tomatoes, and a ton of dressing, lol, see it's like make your own sundae. One last thing that I've never seen anywhere and I eat out a lot as I go on business trips almost monthly, when the hostess seats you, she takes your drink order at the same time and puts in your drink order right away. Wow, how many times do you go to a restaurant, get so excited that your finally seated and just wait there hoping someone comes quickly so you can order that delicious glass of wine, but you wait and wait and wait BUT NOT AT HANKS :o) P.S. this is all coming from a retired waitress that worked at a the same restaurant for 25 yrs straight (not this one and not this town), my point is , so I'm very picky and I know how it should be done and this restaurant has what it takes to make...
Read moreI have to say that this was shockingly bad. We were just one of a couple of diners in the restaurant and the service was oddly slow. The salad bar was replete with old vegetables that showed every sign of being well past prime and beyond consumable. The lettuce was brown, the carrots were dried out and covered with that white cast, the beets were something out of a can. The salad bar was lacking and very pedestrian in its offerings. It reminded me of a bad cafeteria. The salmon I had was just mediocre, farm raised and rather small in portion. The baked potato was seriously underdone and came unadorned with only a packet of sour cream on the side. Really guys? A small foil packet of sour cream? Nothing here that you can't buy at Walmart. For this they charge 18.99? My husband ordered the New York sirloin steak which came topped with a blue cheese crumble. An even odder combination. The steak was grey brown in color like the color of oxidized meat and had a rancid smell to it. It was most undeniably unhealthy to consume. We both got the impression that this was something that had been sitting around in the refrigerator for too many days and utilized instead of being tossed to reduce loss. The blue cheese crumble was foul. I couldn't help wondering if it was used to mask the smell of the old meat? (And for this kind of meat they were charging $30? I can buy the same steak at my finer local gourmet marketplace for $13.) Truly this was frightening enough to report to the Board of Health for proper inspection. I don't believe all the health codes are being observed here. The only nice thing about this experience was the waitress. She was kind and conscionable enough to rightly take the charges of the unconsumed steak dinner off the bill and brought my husband a dessert gratis. And so for that, I give...
