I can not speak highly enough about my experience at Burns Pub & Restaurant. Last night I met my brother in law and his co worker who were in town for a convention and after some research landed on this place. Arriving at 6:30pm to an overflowing parking lot was a really good sign that this place was worth the hype. The place was packed in a the best of ways, from the outside looking in there vibe was casual and friendly with people seemingly really enjoying the meals and drinks they had in front of them.
After a short wait during which the staff offered us drink menus we were seated. This place is exactly what I wish every pub could be like. Warm and inviting. The man who sat us I am assuming is the owner or manager and was very welcoming as was our server, especially when they found out it was our first time.
What I appreciate about the menu is that it had all the classics you would expect from a place like this but the level of execution on the dishes was absolutely phenomenal. My brother in law ordered and old fashion which he said might have been the best he has ever had. The whiskey and scotch selection is one of the best in the state if not the country if that is your thing. I'm a foodie though and the food did not disappoint.
I ordered the pork green chile savory pie of the day. They added mashed potatoes and sharp cheddar cheese on top and it came out piping hot. A twist on the traditional shepard's pie which they also had on the menu and looked amazing. We ordered corn beef poutine which was phenomenal with their house cut fries (chips). We also ordered scotch eggs for the table, something I had surprisingly never had but also never really thought much about. What a delight. Our other guest ordered the bangers and mash which came out with a mountain of mashed potatoes and looked delicious. I know he was very satisfied.
Our server was more than attentive and my drink class was never left empty for more than a moment. We weren't going to get desert but the other food was so good that my companions decided they would order two to share. The strawberry creme bruleé and chocolate toffee cake were made to order and probably two of the best deserts I have ever had.
How I came across this restaurant was just being an avid google review seeker and I'm glad I did. This is low key some of the best food I have had in Colorado having lived here for 8 years now. Don't sleep...
Read moreThis was a delightful surprise of a meal! My husband and I stopped by somewhat spontaneously for a late lunch yesterday and were blown away by the food. I normally dislike Reuben sandwiches but wow - this one I ate at The Burns was so undeniably delicious that they’ve turned me into a believer! The Savory Pot Pie (Pork Green Chili) brought a smile to my face. I love a nice flaky, buttery crust to my pies and they nailed it. The juicy, tender pork chunks in the filling were just icing on the cake.
And speaking of icing on cakes, the desserts were simply EPIC! Seriously. I would seriously considering going back just for the desserts alone (but don’t need to since their dishes are amazing too!). The Irish Crème Brûlée proved to be special - they didn’t slap “Irish” in the front just for fun. The liqueur used added a wonderful flare to the custardy dish. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was likely the best I’ve ever had and I’m still in shock about it! The folks at The Burns have perfected the toffee sauce with excellent balance of sweetness and flavor. And they knocked the date cake out of the park with just the right amount of moistness that doesn’t leave you scrambling for the toffee sauce but doesn’t feel drown in syrup either. I highly recommend getting it! Leave space or make space for it and a scoop of ice cream on top. I told our waitress (who was great, in case your wondering about the quality of service) that the next time my husband and I stop by, we’ll be getting both the Irish Crème Brûlée and Sticky Toffee Pudding.
If you find yourself in the area, stop by The Burns and enjoy!
Thought I was done but forgot to give a shoutout to the House Ginger Beer! My husband loves Ginger Beer and declared the one at The Burns to be an 100/10! It was bright and fresh and there were even small ginger root specks I could see near the top. It made me even happier to enjoy our meal there. It’s always a blessing to eat at an establishment that takes such care and pride in what they create -...
Read moreSad to say this place has really gone downhill. I used to love it and suggest it to family and friends for all special occasions but no longer. Trouble started when I went one time and notice the meat in the shepherd pie was still red and slimy as though it was raw. I couldn’t eat it, but didn’t complain and gave it to a friend who liked it figuring it was an off night. After years of good experiences why wouldn’t I? However a couple weeks after that I went again and this is what sealed the deal that this place has gotten BAD. The hostess said we were the only group in line and it would only be a few minutes to be seated, so we agreed to wait. But then she pointedly sat a group who came in after us, with several members of the group not even present yet, before us. I challenged her about it and she said she was giving the bigger group priority. If you’ve been here before or tried to call you know they don’t take reservations, so I found this incredibly unfair and rude. I’ve also noticed in the last few months they’ve changed their menu. The time we went when I got the raw pie, we had ordered soda bread - a favorite of mine. Well this time the waitress said they didn’t have that anymore and it was pretty much only 2 weeks after that other visit. They also no longer have Irish cream or clam chowder. Waitress acted annoyed that I even dared to ask her. To be blunt, you can get a grilled chicken sandwich anywhere so I don’t understand why they’re botching and cutting items that make a British pub interesting to begin with. Final nail in the coffin was the tab comes with a “kitchen appreciation fee” on it as a line item with our food (for a party of 2 people). Never noticed that before…you must be...
