I had mixed feelings about this place.
I ended up getting what's called the Kodiak. Essentially it's a biscuit sandwich with sirloin steak strips, bacon, I added a poached egg, and a breakfast sausage patty with sausage gravy. As good as it sounds here's where I'm mixed on now I feel about it. If you name your restaurant as biscuits as your main best seller, the biscuits in my opinion would be uplifted. They had decent texture. But the flavor was almost non existent. Slightly buttery but that's it. Just a plain mid at best biscuit. The steak was cooked to order correctly. Great texture. I know that when you cook meat you kind of want to cook on the meat too speak for itself. But that doesn't mean skimp out on seasoning. It tasted good but again, mid at best. That steak could've definitely helped elevate the sandwich. The egg, sausage patty, and gravy were cooked well and the bacon was cooked just the way I like it. The sandwich is also gigantic to the point I had to break it down to eat it. You definitely get what you pay for as far as portion size.
I also had the mac and cheese. I will say that was pretty good. Not my favorite. Add some salt and pepper to it. Give it a bit of flavor. Certainly not worth the outrageous $1.50 upcharge.
My wife had the shrimp and grits. The grits could've stood to be cooked a bit longer. The flavor was great for it. But after about four or five bites it tends to get overwhelming. Almost like you have to cleanse your pallet to enjoy it again. So kind of want on the opposite side of the spectrum from my sandwich. Additionally, add more shrimp. If the dish us shrimp and grits, kind of can't skimp on the shrimp.
My son had the pancakes. Which for water I did think it clever that they shaped it like a bunny for Easter. Clever. Here's the critique of it. As awesome as that is, the pancake seemed lifeless and flat. Less pan"cakey" if that makes sense.
I don't remember what the donut ball things were but those were really good.
Overall it wasn't a terrible experience. The food overall was mid at best but you get what you pay for in portion sizes. I would try it again but it wouldn't be my first pick. The really disappointing part is I had been wanting to try this place out for a while and it wasn't nearly what I had excepted or told about...
Read moreOverall, above average food ruined by awful service. Not good enough to merit trying again.
We were told early on that they only had one cook and that the wait for the food would be longer than usual. The food wait was not exceptionally long at all, however the service was just terrible. Two of us ordered coffee and asked for cream. The waitress passed the table twice with no sign of cream. I waited another 5 minutes and approached the counter and asked another server for cream which she promptly started to provide, until our server came up and took the cream and the pitcher from her and proceeded to pour cream all over her hand and the floor. The rest of the meal was just the waitress walking past us several times without checking in, without refilling coffee or water (she finally filled coffee once when the meal was nearly over). She took the plates and brought the check. I laid my card on top of it right away but again she walked past several times without acknowledging it. I finally went and stood by the door so I would look like a new customer and sure enough a server approached. I asked to speak with the manager. I explained all the above to the manager, Matthew, who was kind and apologized and asked for my check and card saying he would "take care of it." I assumed that would mean a small discount. He took it to the back and had our server run it and bring it out to apologize. Her apology was lackluster - "sorry we're really busy". There was no discount at all. Underwhelming experience. Head to the Breakfast place...
Read moreI have tried this place twice now, because I want to love it like so many people do. Everyone keeps raving about them, and the first time I took my kids, my daughter’s biscuit was completely raw in the middle. There was also food stuck on the side of my plate, and I let it go because I figured it was just a small mistake. This morning, I ordered breakfast for my son and myself and the coleslaw I ordered alongside my chicken biscuit not only smells rotten, the slaw is brown. It just smells like it was sitting out all night and they just tossed it in a container. I am so disappointed. It doesn’t even have any dressing on it, it’s just fermented salad at this point. I will not be returning, which sucks because the Son of a biscuit sandwich is actually really good, despite the lack of seasoning I experienced last time. The servers are super sweet, but I cannot get past uncooked and...
