Khan's Grill — Restaurant in Brownsville

This place is great! After a long day at work, we were looking for something delicious to eat, and this place did not disappoint. I called to confirm closing time, and the young lady who answered the phone, Alejandra, was cordial and professional. She greeted me and introduced herself, and all in all was extremely helpful.

We arrived at the restaurant and were greeted at the door by Sharon. She asked if we had visited before, and we replied no. She then proceeded to explain how and what was available to order. She patiently answered all of our questions. She led us to the food station. I was impressed with the variety of food options and how fresh all the vegetables and protein options were. The food station was clean! CLEAN! In the time we were gathering our food items, I witnessed one employee who appeared to be in charge to make sure the food station was clean and fully stocked.

We finally made it to the cooking station. The chef, Gabriel, greeted us and explained to us the options available on how to prepare our food. Multiple options, multiple sauces. Basically, they cook what you want, the way you want, right in front of you and quickly. The chef even asked about our day!

We were led to our table and the food was taken to us. The food was delicious and hot, and the plates were generously served. We did not need to try and get the attention of the waiters. They worked as a team, and we had our refills and napkins before we even thought about asking for them.

Toward the end of our meal, Mr. Benny Puentes walked to our table to ask if we were doing okay. He introduced himself, and we proceeded to have a very pleasant conversation. From the experience we had today, you can tell Mr. Puentes and his team take pride in their work and talking to Mr. Puentes only confirmed it.

I've gone here a few times and, for the most part, my experiences have been great. The staff is nice and the cooking is done right in front of you. The plates are large and we almost always have left overs. If I had to give one complaint it's that sometimes the buffet area gets messy, and they don't swoop in right away to clean it up when a rush dies down. So my wife and I have been here when theres no one at the buffet, yet it is still messy. Also not all the cooks cook the same which can make your plates a little inconsistent, but either way it always turns out delicious.

Update November 2020 Okay so I went here during lunch one day and picked up a plate. Went home and once i started eating I noticed not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 4 very long hairs in my food! I'm pretty sure it was in the rice. When I took the plate back they were very cold about the whole situation. They were very hesitant to give me a refund even though I have them a bag with all the hairs. It was just a pretty...

Cook seemed to not have a clue what was going on. He had no knowledge of what sauces they had and was quite rude. The amount of sauce he put on our food was so little that it tasted as if there was nothing. It was so bland and tasteless. It seems as if he had not been trained for the job at all. I use to have a great experience every time I would eat here, but the quality has significantly declined over time. The cook I had the last time I came here made me decide that I probably won’t be back unless it’s to a location other than Brownsville. The experience with this cook would have been 0 stars but I went with 2 because of my good experiences years ago.
