This store is really excellent. The owner, Jenna, has a very sincere understanding of why she's in the business, and the larger implications of using pre-owned gear to experience the natural world. The thing I like the most about her approach is how down to earth she is about camping/hiking/skiing, etc. I've seen people from all walks of life get suited up in her store, and I think it's really great that she's stripping back the gearhead/hardcore vibe that is often so prevalent in the outdoor retail industry. I've scored everything from little kid hiking boots to ice climbing gear, AT skis to car-camping lanterns, and I've also had really smooth consignment experiences. I also feel like I am doing a small service to the environment whenever I buy/sell from Jenna. Also, Woods and Waters Gear Exchange (in Brunswick) is on the way to EVERYWHERE in Maine, so it's a great place to pick up last minute gear on your way north to the mountains or headed...

It seems like a really great store, but had a really frustrating experience with gear that was bought in a condition where it cannot actually be used. Purchased a Camelback which did not come with a water bladder, so upon checkout, I asked where I might find a water bladder, and the shopkeep assured me EMS should carry these. Unfortunately, this size and style of water bladder has been discontinued, rendering the pack useless. Attempts to get a refund were unsuccessful. I will likely shop here again, but not without making sure before check out that all parts of the gear I purchased are still both usable and replaceable. This is an outdoor gear consignment shop. They have everything from bikes, kayaks, backpacks, fanny packs, sleeping bags, hiking shoes, miscellaneous camping gear like cookware, canister gas, rainwear, hats, mosquito repellers. They have lots of outerwear for men, women, and children like trail and hiking pants and shirts, parkas, anoraks, pullovers, hats and gloves, etc. They have a wide variety at good prices.
