I used to love Baci. But after this experience I won’t be back.
This was about the worst experience I ever had at a restaurant. After bringing my first soup. I discovered after eating a couple bites there was something in the spinach. I looked at it and it was a cooked fly. I then told the server who said they would bring me a new one. I was really off put and knew the fly was cooked in the soup so I didn’t really want a new soup and would’ve taken something else instead. The second soup came out and I was beside myself. As the lady sat it down I immediately saw another fly in my soup. We immediately flagged the waiter down as she ran off, and asked for them to please take it back and take it off the bill. I do not want to eat fly soup. Getting a fly in each soup makes me question how many flies were actually in the soup. The waiter though blamed the outside flys and that they got there at our table. No we had no flys near us until our dinner was served. We would’ve noticed a fly landing in my soup and dying in it. These were cooked flys. You would think after having a fly in both my soups, one that I nearly Ate, you would’ve comped something or acknowledged the huge fail and apologize not gaslight us about flies in the surrounding area being the culprit. After that I almost left because I was really upset. Instead we chose to give the benefit of the doubt. We got our bill and noticed I was charged EXTRA for my drinks. I ordered two margaritas. And the bartender said they are Apparntly 10. So he took 4 dollars off. I felt so insulted and embarrassed by this experience. Wont be back for being shamed about flys and maybe find a way to prevent that from happening again and handle it better.
EDIT: and to your response to me. Your waiter is mistaken. No one was laughing and he was barely around us to even say such a thing. The fly did not fly into our soup outside. I had no flies near us and I watched my soup the entire time and would know if a fly made it into my soup. The first soup I wouldnt have found the fly burried in a piece of spinach if he "flew" into it outside as you keep saying. Once again these were scorched, cooked flies, which could only have happened in the kitchen. I was very uncomfortable and upset. Yes, I ordered another drink. Which is I shouldn't even have to explain why. But I ordered one because I was trying to get the thought of flies out of my head so I could attempt to...
Read moreBeautiful venue. Dining room is cozy, rustic, romantic. Live music beginning around 7, not too loud; very classy. Service is professional, and typically prompt, but we noticed some longer waits towards the end of our stay when the dining room began to fill up. One annoying feature – our table did not sit evenly on the floor, so it wobbled badly.
Food was fine, but not great. Minestrone soup was good, though it lacked pasta and beans, so I’d describe it more as a vegetable soup. Vegetables were numerous and varied, so it was enjoyable. The eggplant appetizer was fantastic. “Rolled eggplant, prosciutto, mozzarella in pink cream sauce.” The two small pieces went quickly, shared between two people. I was wishing for a third piece.
The pasta special: “Cavatelli, oyster mushrooms, veal ragu.” The pasta itself was cooked just right – slightly chewy, not at all mushy. The sauce was overly oily, and could have benefited from more mushrooms. And the flavor of the sauce was just not to my liking. Also rather salty.
Merluzzo Livornese – “Cod, pan-seared with black olives, onion, capers, tomato, garlic white wine.” I think this is a good dish – the different flavors blended together well, but maybe the cod filet itself was not great. Overall, just “not bad”. Served with fresh, crispy broccoli and thin strips of carrots.
Bread is freshly baked and warm, but not good Italian bread; very white and soft, with no crust. Served with a very large piece of good butter. The tiramisu desert was light and delicious.
Parking lot is tight, so please leave your monster trucks and massive SUVs at home. There is some street parking. Parking lot and street are dark, and a bit of a hazard for the elderly, so take care. There is a beautiful patio for...
Read moreThis review is hard to write because there were so many pleasant aspects about our visit to Baci. We went for a pre Mother's Day dinner on a Friday evening. We had a reservation and were seated promptly but that was where the "promptness" ended. We put in appetizers immediately with our drink request since my 2-year old was with us and would need something to eat sooner rather than later. It took a solid 20 mins or so to get simple (non alcoholic) drinks and beyond an hour to get our appetizer. Entrees took over 2 hours to receive and they initially served my daughter the chicken pot pie instead of shepherds pie by mistake. Our waiter was beyond emotionless, bordering on a brittle personality. He barely spoke and never asked us how anything was. Now for the bright spots, because this place does have some definite plus sides. We loved the ambiance and the live music. My daughter loved to dace to the guitarist, who was excellent, and it was a lot of fun to be up and dancing with her. The building itself has great character and although needs some tending to it was a beautiful place to sit and relax. The food as well was very well done, from the appetizers to the entrees with the exception of my daughter's shepherds pie which was 90% potato and 10% meat and veggies. For the cost of the dish this was very disappointing to see. Personally, I don't mind a dinner that stretches a little long (so that you can truly enjoy the evening) but this dinner was exceptionally long to the point that I was embarrassed for even suggesting we try eating here. That and our waiter's ineptness at doing his job and being poor representation of the restaurant's staff by his moody attitude were the...
