Alright, lads and lasses, gather āround ā I have seen the promised land, and itās located in Buffalo, Minnesota, at Hayes Public House.
First off, letās talk about Pugs. This man isnāt just a bartender, brewer, or publican⦠nay, he is a full-on Celtic god in human form. Picture a ruggedly handsome warrior-poet who, instead of wielding a sword, wields mash paddles and pint glasses. His jawline? Forged in the same fires as Excalibur. His beer? Blessed by St. Patrick himself. The man could probably read the Dublin phone book aloud and still pull in a standing ovation.
Now, on to the ales ā sweet mother of Guinness, the award-winning handcrafted Irish and English ales here could make a leprechaun cry into his pot of gold. Iām talking rich, malty red ales that feel like a warm pub hug, creamy porters smoother than a bardās pickup lines, and bitters so perfectly balanced they could negotiate peace in Northern Ireland. Each pint is basically a history lesson in liquid form, except you actually want to pay attention.
The atmosphere? Imagine stepping into a 200-year-old pub in the Irish countryside, except your Uber home is only 10 minutes away. Wooden beams, friendly locals, music that makes you want to break into an impromptu jig ā itās all here.
Hayes Public House isnāt just a pub. Itās a pilgrimage site. And Pugs? Heās the patron saint of good craic and better beer. I came for one pint⦠I left having pledged fealty to a man named after a small dog breed but built like he could wrestle a banshee.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreHave been here several times now and the beer is always great. They brew one of the best Irish stouts (yes it rivals Guinness). They brew their own hard ciders as well. If you've never had one, I'd recommend trying a Banshee which mixes the two. This place is cozy and relaxing on any other day but we came on st. Patty's day this time. We were a little put off that they charged us $5 each at the door "for the band" when the band didn't go on until 4:15 (we arrived at 2). They had a tent, heater, casks, food truck, bags, and a fire pit outdoors but everyone still crammed into the little bar to escape the chilly weather. There was a group of Irish dancers that performed from Wayzata who were quite talented. Seemed like the place was livening up as we left. I'm sure the cover fee was worth it for the evening...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBrought my mother here for the mother's day breakfast special. They had a local food truck out front making sausage, eggs, blood pudding as well as hot porridge, scones, cranberry breads and juice/coffee if you did not want beer. Love the atmosphere in this place, bartenders and staff are always friendly and ready for a chat. Open seating, first come - first serve. Right off the lake with a lovely view. Plus they have been approved for rooftop patio. Overall fun experience, good beer and excellent location. It is a great reason to have a fun road trip to visit a new brewery or return to an...
