I’ve been coming to Sophia’s from the beginning when they had the smaller location on military right up the road. Sam, Krissy, John and the entire staff have ALWAYS made us feel like we had a second family here. Remembering little details and friendly greetings and even bumping us up a little in the waiting que when we had a special occasion we were celebrating like a birthday or anniversary. I’ve NEVER had a single negative thing to say about the food OR the service here. At times they are EXTREMELY busy and that is just a testament to how many other people believe this is THE place to come eat and enjoy something comforting with your loved ones. I saw a review that had said something about the floors being dirty and for how many people they serve here I never thought they were “dirty”. People make messes but the staff always make the effort to clean up and fully reset each seating space with a clean surface, seating, and foot spaces. I have been eating the same food here every Sunday for like the last 4 years but I do switch it up every other week and try something new. I’ve never been disappointed with a new food experience here and I can only speak on the massive amount of love and appreciation I have for buffalos best breakfast/lunch spot. I’ve been to them all and nothing ever hits like a Sophia’s plate. To Sam and all of the extended family here at Sophia’s, THANK YOU for all that you do and are to all of us here in Buffalo. You’re truly IRREPLACEABLE and life simply wouldn’t be the same without you. Forever in your debt and your biggest fans....
Read moreI decided to stop in at Sophia's for breakfast on a Wednesday around 9:45 a.m. I approached a fairly full bar that had a few empty stools and asked the patrons on either side if the stools were available. A very aware bartender responded that both stools were open, even though she had not even turned around. I was very impressed by how aware she was of the bar in general. I ordered a bloody Mary, a coffee, a couple slices of French toast and a side of ham. All the food came out quickly and everything tasted good. The bloody Mary was highly seasoned and very flavorful. The coffee was good and filled without needing to ask. All in all, I was very impressed with the bartender. I believe her name was Gianni. She seamlessly ran this whole bar in a very busy atmosphere. She had a loud, but friendly, customer that wanted to chat with her while she was the middle of doing multiple tasks. She listened to him and responded without being rude even though she was clearly doing many other things. She attended to multiple checks and multiple servers. She kept up on everyone at the bar. She maintained a cleanly work environment. When food runners came out with food she knew exactly where they were and exactly where they should be sending the food and was able to communicate that without even turning to look while completing other tasks. I'm sure the staff, as a whole, is wonderful, but I was able to see what a pro the bartender while eating today and I wanted to take the time to recognize these things that usually go unnoticed, unless they...
Read moreMe and my friend ordered the same exact skillet meal. When I got mine, halfway through eating it, I noticed they accidentally cooked in the melted wrapper for the pepper jack cheese. We both lost our appetite after seeing this and stopped eating to be safe. The waiter was immediately receptive to the problem, apologized, comped my meal, and made a new meal for me. One of the managers stopped afterwards and apologized as well. She asked if there was anything she could do. I asked on behalf of my friend if our dishes were cooked on the same pan and if his dish was also contaminated with melted plastic. She said she didn’t think so, but she would check and confirm. They never got back to us until it was time for the bill. At this point our appetite was gone and my friend’s meal was cold and uneaten. I thought it was a reasonable ask for his meal to be comped as well, but they would not. Especially since we had 4 total people and ordered other than the skillet meals including drinks and sides.
The rest of the food was good, and the service was good. But this left a sour experience and left a bad feeling on what was supposed to be a good morning for paying close to $100 for breakfast on meals we had a hard time enjoying. Accidents happen, but I really wish they had gotten back to us to confirm that his meal was safe. We had felt forgotten. I enjoyed the previous times I had been there but will likely not be visiting again for a while after...
