I really wanted to like this place. We always go out for a New Years Eve Indian Buffet with friends, it's a tradition. Our normal go to place is Taj Grill but they were no longer offering it this year. After doing a quick search we found that the New Jewel of India was hosting a New Years Eve Grand Buffet, we booked for 7 people and were excited to try somewhere new. Arrived at our allotted time and were seated. We promptly grabbed plates and started to grab food, I will start with the positive...the Food. The food was fantastic and for Buffet Food it all tasted very fresh and is definitely a high point. Now for the rest. The Buffet was advertised 4:30pm until 10. We sat and started eating at 6:30, we spent probably until around 8pm eating and enjoying our friends, in that time we barely had many servers come to our table and refill our drinks, along with letting the plates pile up on the table. Also by around 8:00 quite a lot of the food was gone, particularly around the Dessert section and they didn't make any effort to refill the area, as such some of the Kids didn't eat the Desserts they were excited to try....at 8:00...2 Hours before the Buffet was supposed to finish. Also about 7:30 some of the employees started to converge around the front, ignoring the people still eating and then started SETTING OFF FIREWORKS outside, which started to fill the inside with smoke., also very close to the parking lot which made our friends check if their car was OK ...they were making it very clear they wanted us to leave and we found the smell to be too much and we made our way to exit the building, picking up our coats that now smelled of smoke ( the coats were hung by the entrance, right where they were setting off the fireworks ).
Overall a good food experience, ruined by employees who seemed more interested in having a good time than attending to the diners in the restaurant.
Great food,...
Read moreBest Indian Buffet in Buffalo hands down. Best vegetarian offerings and best value at 18.99. There are four Indian Buffets available post-pandemic that I am aware of (Heart of India, Kabab and Curry, Shalimar BBQ, and New Jewel) and this one is decidedly the best. Only once/week on Thursday starting at 4:30 PM but occasional they have holiday offerings. Always have pakoras (or rare occasion samosas), Naan, Garlic Naan (included with buffet), six vegetarian dishes (occasionally biryani), four meat dishes, along with salad bar. Salad bar also includes cucumber salad and onion Raita, both are excellent. Includes lentil soup, Rosemilk, and chai tea. Desert has galub jamun, kheer, and fresh fruit.
Spice is mild enough for my spice-averse mother but tasty enough for myself. Pakoras have a fabulous crisp if you arrive just when they open. Naan lacks the fluff and the Biryani is a little mushy but this food on the whole cannot be beat. There is a sign at the front of the buffet saying they will charge you if you waste food. My mother was not too fond of Indian food but has now become an enthusiast closing in on addiction. Parking becomes limited when the restaurant is full, about 8 spots outside.
UPDATE: They now have lunch buffet on Fri/Sat for 13.99, starts at 11:30 AM. Six vegetarian dishes became three + biryani, four meat dishes became three, no galub jamun, no bhatura. Still have lentil soup, chai, and rosemilk and all the others. For vegetarians Thursday dinner is probably the better deal with more options. If you eat meat, Fri/Sat is probably adequate for you and...
Read moreWe come here often, so I decided it was time to write a review. Every time we come, we always enjoy ourselves. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable about their menu for my dietary restrictions. We've never had anything bad here and the space is always nice and warm in the winter and perfectly cool in the summer. We always get the carafe of sangria, which has the perfect amount of sweetness and the men love their giant beers, haha. I honestly can't remember one dish that we recieved that we didn't love, so try them all! I didn't give them 5 stars only because the last time we were there, they made us the wrong app. When they brought it to us, we asked if it was the chicken, our waitress went and asked, came back and said it was the paneer and not the chicken, but if we wanted to, we could just keep that one and they would make us the chicken right away, since they already made the paneer. So we did. We were charged for it, yes, I know, we ate it, but we didn't order it. We assumed by the way it was said to us that we wouldn't be charged for it since they made the mistake, but we were. That's it, so just be mindful if it happens to you, even if it's their mistake, you will pay for it if they offer it to you. This won't deter us from coming back because we honestly love the food and the staff. Oh and I found out they have buffet dinners on Thursdays and lunch buffets on Fridays...
