My comment has no relevance if the woman described below does not work for Wine on Hertel, which is usually a lovely place. I walked into this wine bar just a few minutes ago. People were inside and all the doors leading in from the street were open. I quickly headed for the bathroom because I needed to go before ordering. I realized while I was in the bathroom that Iād left my wallet in the car. A woman accosted me on my way out the door to grab my wallet. She asked, āWere you invited?ā in a tone of disbelief, maybe sarcasm, with emphasis on āinvited.ā It was clear that she meant to make me feel uncomfortable. Everyone else on the room was looking at me, the would-be customer who had blundered into this setting not knowing I would be publicly humiliated. I had had no idea that the open door meant that people from the street were not supposed to walk in and order. Instead of politely and/or kindly informing me that there was a private event going on, this woman chose to humiliate me in front of the group. She then went on to repeat more than once that yes, this was a private event. Iād guess that she was enjoying what she was doing in making me aware of my idiocy. I hope I never have to be spoken to by that unfeeling...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn a chilly evening, I ducked into this wine bar looking for a place to warm up, and what I found was so much more than just a cozy refuge. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted like an old friend, even though it was my first visit. I ordered a Merlot, sat down with my book, and lost myself in both the story and the atmosphere. A few pages in, the server checked inānot just with the usual "Howās everything?" but with genuine curiosity about the book I was reading. We ended up chatting about favorite authors and pairing wines with moods, which was unexpectedly delightful. The space is perfect for either solitude or conversation, and I saw groups of friends laughing over shared plates as well as couples tucked into corners whispering over candlelight. It reminded me of evenings spent journaling in cafĆ©s overseas, where time felt suspended. This place captures that same essence. I stayed for a second glass and a small plate that was surprisingly elegant for such a laid-back setting. By the time I left, I felt like Iād discovered a little pocket of peace in the city. Iāve recommended it to friends since and plan to make it a regular stop. Itās a wine...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdated 7/2/2023 We have been back several times over the years and it just keeps getting better! We were in last night and had some incredible food. The wine was amazing as always. If you haven't been and you are looking for noteworthy wine and delicious food this is the place to go. Can't wait to go back!!
What a great find! Can't wait to go back, this will be our new spot. We had a couple of glasses of wine that was recommended by the bartender Pete - He was spot on! The wine selection was simple but high quality, something for everyone. Nice beer selection for the non wine drinker. The atmosphere of the venue was cozy and welcoming. The outdoor area was not open due to the cold but that looked cute as well. We will definitely be back and can't wait for the warm weather to sit...
