My husband and I are doing market research for a bar we’re planning to open. We learned about Champs on Bar Rescue. It’s one of the few places that is still open to this day, so we had to check it out for ourselves.
We walked in and no one really acknowledged, or greeted us for the first 10 minutes. We both used the restroom which could have done with some cosmetic upkeep. The bartender was extremely friendly to my husband (we failed to catch his name) and our server Amanda was super nice and helpful once we got her attention. Can’t really blame her, the place was pretty full and she was the only server on the floor.
The food was outstanding! We had the Champs burger with regular fries, the Western burger with sidewinders, and ballpark nachos. Our only regret was getting chili on the ballpark nachos, but that was our choice. With everything we ate and the drinks we shared, our tummies ended up being a little angry about that chili (remember Grandma’s Boy?).
We had a well vodka soda with lemon, an old fashioned, 2 Lebron Jamesons, and a Bee a Gentleman. All were good, the Lebron was our favorite (hence 2).
We shared control of the jukebox (TouchTunes) with some other patrons who liked the same music we do, so when we heard a bunch of Judas Priest and Tenacious D come on, we were stoked.
With 2 full dinners and 5 drinks our total was just over $100. More than fair and absolutely worth every penny.
It’s clear why Champs is still open. Not sure if it’s the same owner who opened it back in 87 but I believe it has lasting power left in it.
Recommendations for Champs: Keep an eye out for new faces in the bar. Even just a “hi, I’ll be right with you” goes a long way.

Read moreSo I go into Champs on a saturday, after viewing "bar rescue." I thought, "wow cool, I live nearby." Neighborhoodsy spot. A smug florida imp bartender fesses their part on the show was a scam to make upgrades to the place at no cost to them. What ballz! No gratitude. Doesn't pretend to even try to play along, I give credit for courage for lying by the way. I tip a buck for a single draft. Warming up, I tip $2 for a pitcher now. She takes the balance from a $20 for the beers... $3.50, off the counter while Im looking the other way cuz shes a mid shifter and has to go. I catch her and she couldnt even give back everything she took. Learn that from a whoreter girl. All bets off for that experience. You don't get used to stealing. Poor closing btender was sweet and honest and might have to patch up the bad feelings her predecessor creates on a nightly basis. I couldn't wait to be nice to her by then. Build a burger was on stale bread from the cook who thought he was a celeb by then as well from the show after quitting. Punk! Im already disappointed in mankind from war. Thank god for Sardo's porn star karoake down the street on North Hill/ 134. Go...
Read moreI would like to say good things about champs because I work so close and like to show my support to small businesses but the truth is I can't. I ordered a grilled cheese a couple months back and surprise I found mold on my bread. Rather than lashing out, I called the waitress over and let her know without making a big deal (even though I am allergic to mold). The owner came over and offered me a free meal and 2 more free meals as if that was going to fix the problem. I went months without going and just yesterday I thought i would give it a shot since I work near by. This time I ordered a grilled chicken caesar salad thinking this would be different because it's a salad. Nope, sure enough I opened the lid and there was mold on my lettuce and mold on the cheese. I was so enraged I walked right back in and spoke to the bartender and demanded to get my money back. She insisted I get another salad as if that would make up for the mold rather than refund me. I do not blame the bartender nor the cook. I blame the owner because they allow this to happen and are not keeping an eye on the food they are selling to...
