Featured on an episode of Huell Howser's California Gold, this is a nice quiet place to dine with friens, or enjoy a cocktail in the lounge with friends. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, being a little busy during dinner hour.
I liked the vibe here. There is a variety of seating here, including a lunch counter, outdoor patio, and cocktail lounge with sign at entrance "Family * Friends * Traditions". It is dimly lit, with wall lighting and suspended lighting that is definitely an homage to its beginnings in the late 1950s.
There is variety in the menu, including a few vegan dishes along with classics sandwiches, burgers and fries, steaks, chicken and seafood.
My husband ordered open faced turkey sandwich with stuffing and cranberry sauce. While I was waiting for my meal (see below), I had a few bites. The turkey was very tender, gravy and stuffing full of flavor.
Initially I ordered Fisherman's Plate (scallops, shrimp and fish), but did not realize that this dish was all fried. It was not clearly stated on the menu, but you should know that all of the seafood sectioned together on the menu are fried or battered, and the salmon salad blackened. It looked very appetizing, but I do not usually eat my seafood fried. My server was very polite, and when I returned it, there was no issue. In its place, I was able to order a salmon dish grilled, which was fresh, very tender, and very tasty!
Other relevant information is that my salad had a little too much dressing for my taste. If you like to taste the vegetables in the salad, I recommend ordering the dressing on the side. The salad ingredients were fresh and tasty. And the sourdough bread that came with my meal was warm, moist and melt in your mouth delicious!
Even though there were a few snafus with my meal, this is a place I will return to. The prices are competitive, portions generous, the service was excellent and the staff very friendly and polite. We enjoyed a nice quiet meal in a historic place with an excellent...
Read moreThe worst place to go the waitress by the way her name is Jennifer treated me really bad today. On Thanksgiving she was making my boyfriend Ken Purvee and I leave because my boyfriend wanted to see the football game. We wanted to stay longer because the football game was on. She came with the check and said we can only be there for an hour. It did not make any sense. The other people that sat in the other side of our table was there forever and they did not care. They told everyone that whomever comes there needs to order food. The waitress never told them anything. It was only us. They sat there ordering drinks and no turkey dinner. It was told to everybody only those who eat in will be allowed to stay longer. 80 dollars was the charge for this turkey dinner and the service was really bad there. It was the worst day ever. The food was good but the service is the worst . Never in my life have I ever felt bad. I told her exactly what I felt that she was rude and very unprofessional and bad customer service and she said I'm sorry you can stay. At that point it was too late. I might not look white but I am white born American. Does not matter but I felt she was rude and very unprofessional and shouldn't be working there. She even had my boyfriend and I fighting it was the worst thanksgiving i had. It was bad. This woman should be fired. And whomever is like her should be fired. Never again plan to return and this place only got a 1 star for there turkey dinner. She was there for tips. She felt we had taken her tips by sitting there and she will not get more customers. Warning if anyone goes there don't let Jennifer a blonde older lady serve your plates for you. She is the worst person and worst waitress. Worst place to go because parking is bad. Also we waited for two hours. That...
Read moreThis isn’t my first time here. Use to come here all the time with the family. This is definitely the epitome of a family restaurant and family owned.
Interior is on the drab side. Definitely glad they got rid of the carpet in the dining room. Small steps I would assume.
Came here with my mom because she loves their turkey dinner. Our server wasn’t that busy, but a little out of sorts. Two tables got their salads before us and we ordered before. When we asked where they were she seemed confused. Needless to say she did bounce back.
Turkey dinner comes with mashed potatoes, salad or soup, sourdough bread, stuffing, and mashed potatoes and gravy, and cranberry sauce. It is definitely a lot and of course the majority of the people that go there…it’s a second meal for them. That being said, it’s kind of worth the price. I have had the turkey myself and it is not bad, but it is a little too salty and processed for my liking.
I decided to have the pork chops this time. They come with mashed potatoes two raw carrots, LOL…yep, soup or salad, small soufflé cup of applesauce, and fresh sourdough bread. The pork chops were overcooked and had no flavor. I had to add salt. I decided to get my dressing put on the side. That was a great idea for myself, considering the fact, my salad was drowning the last time. I always get the ranch dressing because it is fire. Dipping the sourdough bread in the ranch dressing is also good.
If I had my choice of time to come here it would be breakfast. Their breakfast is never a miss. Lunch or dinner however could go either way. Even service. Service is always better in the morning because their veteran servers are there.
Anyways, not bad food. Try breakfast it’s...
