The front desk staff showed amazing customer service. They were always friendly, conversational and helpful. I interacted with 3 or 4 members from the front desk team while I was there and all of them were awesome. Customer service was excellent.
It was an excellent benefit to have the shuttle take us to the WB Studio Tour. That helped out a lot. It was easy to schedule, ride over, get picked up. Our driver was very helpful. He even helped us take photos while at the WB Studio Tour before he headed back.
The stay could have been a little bit better had they provided more face towels upon check in. I needed more face towels after my first night. Since housekeeping only comes on the third day of your visit, I think it would be helpful to either give more towels initially, or be sure the guest has enough when housekeeping does come. Although a small matter, I did have to keep asking for towels, and most times I was not able to get face towels, I was given hand towels or some other combination.
I will say, I was severely disappointed in the food that I purchased from Olive Bistro. I ordered $73 worth of food and gave a $7 tip, although I came down and picked up the food myself. Overall, it was not good. The Spinach and artichoke dip was bad, it had an after taste that definitely lingered. The taco salad was not good, the chicken was not seasoned or definitely under seasoned. The chicken pot stickers were good, as well as the coconut shrimp. The avocado chicken club sandwich was a big letdown. Again, it's just a sandwich so I'm not sure how it came out so poorly in presentation and taste. The chicken definitely needs some level of seasoning. Just because it's a grilled chicken sandwich doesn't mean I should only taste lettuce and avocado. Huge let down on that end. I ordered this during lunch time on 8/24, so the only excuse I could come up with on why the food was so bad is because perhaps the main chef was not on duty at that time? I did not get the impression that a real chef was there. I waited a long time at the front counter for someone to come and take my order, or to see if any customers were waiting to be seated but no one ever came. I eventually walked around to the employees' only area and asked if anyone was working the front counter. I eventually was able to order my food. So overall, not sure what happened with the quality and taste of the food, but I definitely will not order from this place again. There are too many other quality places to get food from, instead of wasting money.
While the food was a complete miss, I will definitely praise the bar tending team. Isabelle is an absolute delight. She is great at her job and so friendly and helpful. She gave us suggestions on places to try in the area, including Porto's which was an amazing suggestion, great food. Then there was my encounter with Dennis, the "World Famous Mixologist" - the man, the myth, the legend himself! It was an absolute pleasure to meet Dennis. He made some very good drinks for us as we chatted a bit about some of his favorite restaurants. I definitely have a good list of places to try the next time...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I planned a trip for Universal Studios Hollywood a few months in advance. My boyfriend wanted to stay somewhere really nice and the Coast Hotel looked like a great option. Pictures looked nice on the website, the price seemed a bit high so we figured it would be worth it. I was optimistic especially because they let us check in right when we arrived, which was a bit earlier than we expected. When we stepped into the room, all my optimism drained. The room looked okay, but it smelled terrible. There was a stale, mildew smell almost like the carpet has been washed too many times and not properly dried. Or maybe like an old bathroom that had never been cleaned. Super gross. I turned the AC on immediately in hopes the smell would be gone by the time we got back in a few hours. It was not fully gone at all.
Second problem: there were only two plugs in the room available to plug electronics in. I brought my laptop and each of us had a cellphone. I had to move the night stand just to plug my phone in for the night. I had to unplug a lamp to charge my laptop. (Every hotel I've stayed in post 2015 has multiple plugs easily accessible on top of night stands or tables for many electronics.)
Third problem: I realized at this point they never told us the WI-FI password. When I went up to the front desk, she told me the password would be out last name and room number. That didn't work. Eventually I got a page to come up where it asked for your name and number but that wasn't the password. I was only getting about one to two bars out of 5. It kept turning off. We tried watching a movie and it took about half an hour to get the WiFi set up.
In the bathroom there was a vanity, but no plug for a hair dryer or straightener. The plug was right next to the sink. What's the point of the vanity if you can't plug anything in?
There were a few giant hairs on the shower wall that weren't cleaned. Gross.
No vending machines. When my boyfriend asked if they had any snacks, they told him he could go down to the Safari Inn a few blocks away. What?! We should have stayed there lol
Oh and because we only have a debit card, they charged us a 250 deposit. If we had a credit card it would have been 100, which is reasonable. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. The most I've been required to give as a deposit on a debit card was 100 a night at an even nicer hotel.
Just thought I'd warn people in case you get fooled by the prices and pictures too. For 215 a night (with AAA discount), I expect more. Just basic amenities really.
Overall, I have never given a one star review. Ever. I am giving a one star review because this hotel was absolutely not...
Read moreOverall a great stay at the Coast Anabelle Hotel.||Looked into a few options in the Burbank/Glendale area and decided on the Coast Anabelle due to its convenient location to Universal Studios and easy access to highways. ||Location is great only a few minutes to Universal Studios. It is about 20 minutes way from the Griffith Observatory and Hollywood Blvd, 30 minutes away from downtown LA and 40 mnutes away from the Santa Monica Pier. It is about a 45-minute drive to LAX though. (Closer to an hour given LA traffic)||There are also lots of food options in the area including some sit-down places, and a McDonald's and Raising Cane's only a few walkable blocks away. Other food options are a short (5 minute) drive away. ||I saw some great review of this hotel...guest seemed to emphasize its homely/boutique feel...which I fully agree with. From the moment you enter, all staff were friendly and helpful. They did not hesitate to thoroughly explain everything relating to your hotel stay.||The hotel is associated with another Coast establishment, across the street, the Safari Inn. Since the Coast Anabelle does NOT have a pool, laundry or fitness center on site, you are permitted to use those facilities of the Safari Inn. Though I did NOT use the pool or laundry room...I did use the small fitness center there which I was able to access using my keycard without any issues. ||The room was great...neat and well-maintained. Coffee maker and refrigerator...but no microwave. The bathroom, which had a large walk-in shower was definitely a highlight.||Daily cleaning (bedsheets/towel replenishment) was also very much appreciated...you don't see this as much, particularly post-COVID.||The Coast Anabelle was also one of the very few hotels which offerred FREE (and adequate) parking...most other charge $15-25 per night to park. The ones closer to the downtown LA area and Hollywood Blvd. charge upward of $40!||Very safe area as I walked around the surrounding blocks without any concern.||Very happy with our stay here...highly recommended to those looking into a place to stay while visiting the LA area. Kudos to the management and staff! Keep up...
