We really wanted to love Black and Blue, but we were sadly very much disappointed. Very cool atmosphere, so we were excited to visit. Never have I taken the time to write a review, but tonight was that bad.
Service from the moment we walked in was lackluster. The hostess seemed annoyed even though it was a quiet Thursday evening. Our waitress was very polite but we almost never saw her. Our drinks remained empty for quite awhile after we finished them. She interrupted us eating our appetizers to take our meal order, and seemed to be going through the motions but not truly caring. And her assistant who was supposed to keep our water and drinks filled, was only seen at the beginning of service. we never saw him again after he filled out water when we were given menus. We were in and out in under an hour, with waitstaff clearing plates without asking if we were finished, leaving us with the feeling we were being rushed out.
Food was also a disappointment. We ordered the crab as an app which was boring. A pretty presentation but lacked any flavor. Somehow the cucumber overtook the crab and the dish fell flat. For entrees we had snapper and lamb. The lamb was cooked well but the sides were an odd pairing. The snapper was very much over cooked and the sides were undercooked, with all three (carrots, Brussel sprouts and potato) being raw in the middle. Both dishes were also over seasoned. Sadly the best part of our meal was the little chocolates you get for free with your check.
At this price point we expected more. And with other restaurants in the area in this price point having both better service and quality of cooking I’d pass on Black and Blue. That is unless you are looking to grab a drink before you go out to eat somewhere else. The only reason I’m gibing it a 2 is because of...
Read moreMy husband I and dined here on Saturday, March 23rd to celebrate his birthday. When we first walked in, we couldn't believe how busy it was. The tables were full and there were a few guests waiting, but when we were seated, the servers made us feel like we were the only guests at the restaurant. Our main server, Sandie, was friendly, made excellent beverage & food recommendations. The night started off with an amazing cosmo (one of their specialty beverages, but I can’t recall the name) and my husband had a beer. Our taste buds were then treated to warm bread and butter, which nearly melted in our mouths. Next we had the large oyster sampler which were simply delightful & so fresh! When then had the crab & lobster fondue which was creamy and wonderful. The pita chips were toasted to perfection and were a great accompaniment to the fondue. For our main course, my husband had a ribeye with lump blue crab & a side of gorgonzola cream and I had the bistro filet with 3 grilled shrimp. And we shared a side of fries. Both were cooked to perfection and incredibly delicious. The filet is perhaps the best filet I've ever had. Others pale in comparison and quite honestly, I likely won't order filet at any restaurant other than Black & Blue Steak & Crab. Dessert was tempting, but we were both too full. The food and the overall experience was tremendous and so much so, that we recommended it to our friends who made a reservation for the following weekend. Great job to everyone at Black & Blue and we're looking forward to...
Read moreFirst time coming here to celebrate our anniversary, it was just okay. Started out with “la abeja” for a drink, it was not what I expected. It was like drinking pure margarita mix. I sent it back as I couldn’t manage to drink it. I ordered the “sparkling cosmo” instead, this was so much better.
For apps we went with the pork belly & oysters. Belly was superb, so delicious. Hubby is a big oyster fan & said they were fresh.
For dinner we ordered the porterhouse steak. It was cooked great but it was very salty. Sides we got the mushrooms and mac & cheese. Mushrooms were bland, little salt & pepper wouldn’t hurt. They were also oily, not the best mushroom dish. The Mac & cheese was decent.
We were celebrating our anniversary & we were under the impression we would receive complimentary champagne & dessert. This was not given or even offered. Our friends, 2 different couples, had celebrated their anniversary & were given both complimentary things on different occasions. We didn’t bother asking as figured it would have been offered.
Overall food was okay. The downside was that service was very slow. We waited a while to get water, then about 15 mins to take out app order. Our waitress was nice but didn’t give us the attention she was giving other tables. For the price you pay for food, you shouldn’t wait so long for water glass to get filled.
Not sure if we would go back. Didn’t make a huge impression, plus the service (time wise)...
