My wife and I wanted to try something new, and we came across Kismayo Kitchen, a hidden gem in Burlington. From the moment we walked in, we were captivated by the warm and inviting ambiance. The decor reflected a beautiful blend of Somali culture and modern aesthetics, creating an atmosphere that was both cozy and vibrant.
For our meal, we started with the Beef Samosas as our appetizer, and they were a perfect introduction to the culinary journey ahead. Crispy on the outside and filled with a flavorful blend of seasoned beef, they were absolutely delicious. For our main entrée, we both opted for the Chicken Coconut Stew. The dish was exceptional—tender chicken cooked to perfection in a creamy, spiced coconut sauce that was rich and comforting. To accompany our meal, we enjoyed Somali Tea, a fragrant and lightly spiced tea that perfectly complemented the flavors of our dishes.
The service was outstanding, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure our experience was memorable. They were friendly, attentive, and more than willing to share insights about the menu and Somali cuisine.
Beyond the food and ambiance, it’s clear that Kismayo Kitchen, under the leadership of Chef Ahmed Omar and the owners, has had a positive impact on the Burlington community. Their dedication to sharing Somali culture through food, coupled with their active involvement in local initiatives, has made them a beloved part of the neighborhood. The restaurant not only offers incredible meals but also fosters a sense of connection and inclusivity.
We left feeling thoroughly satisfied and inspired by the experience. Kismayo Kitchen is more than just a restaurant—it’s a celebration of culture, community, and culinary excellence. We’re already looking forward to...

I happened across Kismayo’s Kitchen while waiting to check into my Airbnb – what luck! The service was friendly and accommodating and the food was exceptional. Some of the food has a kick, but it’s balanced nicely so you get the flavor without melting your mouth. Another customer recommended the tea, which is made in-house, and is good enough to make me a tea drinker (I generally drink coffee). I made sure to stop in for another meal before leaving town just to get another cup and try another dish. I highly recommend Kismayo’s Kitchen to anyone interested in expanding their palate.
On a side note, the owner asked me how I like Burlington. I responded that I like Burlington and that it’s a very beautiful town. I in-turn asked him how he likes Burlington and he responded that he likes Burlington because it is safe. What a simple but profound observation, especially when I consider that safety is one benefit I enjoy on a daily basis… yet take for granted so easily. Thank you for reminding me of all the things I have to be...
