The Som — Restaurant in Burlington

I wanted to take my daughter somewhere nice on the holiday weekend. Money is something not everyone has a lot of but I “thought” I had plenty to buy us a nice meal before we went to a movie, a rare occasion but a holiday. However that was until the server who originally handed me my ticket with my items in it. That I could afford. Came around and snatched my card up put it in a machine all without showing it to me. Sat it down on the table and walked away. She had been cold and unfriendly and I was not bothered by it, the food was good and drinks were cold, but when I looked down at the bill she had just rang up that was TRIPLE the price of my ticket I needed her to fix it. Not run my card and then have Four Times the amount I had originally paid for all debted from my account. But I was just supposed to be ok with this because it would “eventually be back in the account” but gone was our ability to do anything else nice, but couldn’t say anything and be further embarrassed by my financial situation in public, and why so the waitress could be more cold and I could look like the problem.. She seemed annoyed at all my food questions and drink ask so why would she be friendly now. .Some of us can not afford to spend 4 x the amount and it not effect us. I could afford a 50 dollar bill but not a 200 dollar one. Do better please! Or maybe refund the difference, not still expect me to pay when you just tied up all of my money. Poor folk deserve nice meals every now and then too without having to always pay consequences beyond...

We were very disappointed with our first visit to The Som. We went for lunch, it was NOT busy, and plenty of staff on hand. We waited quite awhile for our waitress to take our drink order, waited for water, waited to order appetizer, when it was delivered, she left and didn’t return for an extended period of time to take our food order. We ordered 4 burgers and a chicken meal ( nothing complicated) and we waited well over fifty minutes for delivery. She never once came by to let us know why there was a long delay with our food. When it was finally delivered to our table, only 3 meals came and about 8 mins later the other 2 plates arrived. She did not return to our table until our meal was almost finished to ask if we needed anything else. When we had finished, she finally returned, we asked for our check. After approx 20 minutes of waiting for our check, we had to get up and ask another waitress for our bill. This was a very disappointing experience. Again, the restaurant was not busy, several empty tables in the main room, and only 4 tables of customers in the other room. Plenty of wait staff working, so there was no apparent reason for the extensive delay and lack of service. If she would have communicated a reason to us about a delay, we would have understood. What should have been an hour visit turned into a 2.5 hour visit. For the price we paid, the service and food...

One of the best burgers I've had in a while. I'm not from here, so it was shocking to see this level of quality in such a small town like burlington. Absolutely killer food. This place can definitely compete with the big boys. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the amount of time it took for us to get our orders. Other than that, our waitress was super patient (especially with a few old folks who couldn't comprehend that she was asking what side they wanted). I ordered The Pig and the Goat Burger (or something like that). Even though it took us 50 minutes to get our food, I'd gladly wait that long twice over for the meal I experienced today. Delicious. Fries were crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. The jam on the burger had perfect balance. The garlic aioli had the exact amount of tang I look for. The burger itself was the perfect thickness. And whoever cooked it was so precise, they managed to get the meat to the exact temperature and tenderness I look for as well. This chef is going places. Hopefully they're being paid the big bucks, otherwise I'm sure they'll have a job waiting for them somewhere more promising. Overall, I wanted nothing more than to give this place five stars. But with the amount of time it took to get our meals, I can't. I'll definitely be going back though, even though I live...
