I went to the Chop Shop with a friend and I ordered a ton of food to check out and review! First off the service was phenomenal, the server was friendly and pretty knowledgeable and her recommendations were good. The cooks seemed cool and like they cared but it did slightly bother me that one of them was eating food like straight off the line while preparing orders but I'm assuming he swapped gloves or washed hands in between bites and orders. The owners were both here when I came and both were working, one came in with produce and one was running around helping out. Super awesome to see and it really means a lot to me when I see owners who care and are a part of their business. The place is cool, atmosphere was a A+, plentiful seating and they were packed to the brim on a Tuesday around 1pm. Wait was about 30 minutes from order to arrival but that was fine with me because all the main parts of the food were fresh and hot. The nachos were fantastic and arrived first. Delicious, cheesy fresh chips and the roasted chicken on top hit the spot! Fries definitely finished before everything else. I saw basically they have a big bowl they were just taking fries from. I had both the sweet potato and regular, both were okay and probably good piping hot but idk. Burger was ordered rare and literally came out perfectly the way I wanted, server said the blend was brisket, chuck and "something else". The blend was fantastic and juicy but a shame the burger had no flavor, if they used a touch of kosher salt and/or garlic and onion powder it would elevate the burger to something I would definitely order again. As of now it was very bland, all the flavor came from the pot roast on top. The special was a pot roast wrap and it was my favorite thing, flavorful, veggies, cheese, just perfect. The cheeseburger soup is basically their queso and burger meat made into a soup, again the burger pieces were bland but the soup itself was super rich and thick and I would pour that over nachos, kinda gave me broccoli and cheddar vibes. Everybody in here was ordering their Fried chicken sandwich so I caved and ordered that too along with a brownie milkshake. The breading and chicken were cooked perfectly. Downsides were the vinegar heavy flavors probably from the coleslaw dressing and again the breading was very bland, needed like some Cajun seasoning in the flour or something. Also bread was about twice the size of the chicken so it was a little unbalanced after the breading was removed there was probably only a couple ounces of actual chicken. I was dunking the chicken in cheeseburger soup and it was great! Milkshake was fantastic and presentation was amazing. So if you aren't in a rush and want to enjoy an affordable meal with with family and friends in a cool place with great service then the Chop Shop is the...
Read moreI was traveling through Butler on a day trip to hit thrift stores and junk shops. My companion and I noticed this restaurant on Main Street in downtown and decided to check it out.
The decor was car and road trip oriented but in a very cool way. We sat in the entryway which had an open garage door which was lovely on a summer afternoon. Our server, Devan, was wonderful - friendly and helpful.
There was an extensive menu, but we are vegetarians and there weren't a lot of options immediately obvious. I went for an omelette which says you can "add anything from the menu." I selected tomato, spinach, goat cheese and avocado. With great joy I noticed that they served gluten free breads that were freshly baked daily so I ordered toast which I almost never get to do.
My companion saw a beet burger on the menu and asked if he could have it without the burger. We were told that we absolutely could mix and match anything on the menu. He ended up ordering the beet burger in a gluten-free wrap. The sandwich had roasted beets, goat cheese, hard boiled egg and a delicious sauce.
We ordered sides of macaroni and cheese and homemade chips. Everything was delicious. Honestly, I would never have suspected food this good would be available in Butler. Stupid me. Each thing we tried was better than the last.
I think the menu could have a few more overtly vegetarian non-salad options because if we hadn't thought of going "off menu", I don't think we would have had nearly as great of an experience. The open kitchen causes the back of the restaurant to smell like meat if that's a problem for you. The front was much better and the semi-outdoor space where we sat was perfect.
We chatted with a few meat eaters as they were headed in for their meals. They all were regulars who loved the food in case it is useful to you to know that.
We got gluten free cookies to go and ate them when we got home. Certainly the best cookies I've had that I haven't baked myself.
For a grand finale, we felt certain we had just eaten a $40 meal. When we looked at the check, it was $20. Unbelievable.
Highly recommended even if you have to travel...
Read moreThis place was just okay. My family and I stopped here after attending a graduation after a quick Google search and I saw the good reviews. The atmosphere was pretty cool. It has an 80's auto shop vibe. The initial waitress who seated my family and I, and got us our drinks was kind of cold and didn't look very happy, but she wasn't necessarily mean to us. She just looked like she would've rather been elsewhere. Our actual waitress was much nicer and always had a smile on her face and was very attentive.
The food was just okay, but way too pricey for the amount you get. I ordered The Land Yacht which is basically an Italian hoagie. I was under the impression that the sandwich would at least come with the basic veggies (lettuce, tomatoes, and onions), but to my surprise it only came with meat and cheese. The Italian bread that came with the sandwich was very good though. I ordered a side salad with their balsamic vinaigrette instead of fries and it only came with greens and soggy grape tomatoes (maybe croutons, I can't remember), but the dressing was a balsamic reduction not really a vinaigrette and much too sour for my taste, it needed some olive oil. A few family members ordered the burgers and said they were very good. My niece ordered the steak salad and wanted it cooked rare (odd girl) and it was more medium to medium-well, she said it was just okay. My parents liked their sandwiches, but were still hungry afterwards.
They had some odd menu items like duck eggs and their ingredients are fresh. However, the next time I see a place online that's categorized as a gastropub, I'll remember to avoid it. These types of places just aren't my cup of tea and a little too pricey for a sandwich with no veggies and food that just tastes okay. I don't live near the place so won't go back because of this, but I probably wouldn't...
