Attended the first Pint Night and the soft opening event for their Mug Club members. The staff and owners are super friendly and passionate about their business, and it shows in everything they do. The atmosphere is great... that first pint night was packed with wall to wall people and the staff took it in stride. The soft opening was much more relaxed and what I expect normal operation will be like.
Their food is more like what I expect from gastropubs back in Los Angeles, which is a pleasant surprise here in Butler. All of the food is locally sourced, which I think is great for the local economy. My friend and I got the fried oyster small plate to share as well as a bison burger and a short rib grilled cheese sandwich. All of the food was amazing... the flavors blended perfectly... in fact the sandwiches were so good that we forgot to take a picture of them before we ate them. We also tried the sorghum ice cream, which was a little small in portion for my taste, but was incredibly flavorful.
As for the beers, five were on tap today. We got a flight to try them all. The GP Pale Ale is nice and light with a smooth finish. The Bantam Amber is a good, malty amber ale that manages to have notes of caramel and butterscotch without them being overpowering... though it does make it faintly (very faintly) on the sour side. Pitfall is their IPA, and while it is quite hoppy, the grapefruit flavor comes through nicely. I won't lie, I am not a fan of IPAs, but I must admit this is one of the nicest ones I have had in years. Quicksand Saison is a lovely Belgian style ale that managed to unseat Blue Moon as my friend's favorite beer. Lastly, Amelia is their strawberry blonde ale that does a great job of bringing that sweet strawberry flavor into every sip.
I would have to say personally that Quicksand and Amelia are my favorites so far. I know that they are still brewing the rest of their beers. I recall that they plan to have eight beers on tap at a time, four staples (GP, Bantam, Pitfall, and Quicksand) and four rotating beers. I look forward to seeing what they tap next.
All in all, this is a great new place in Butler that has some excellent food, great beer, and a...
Read moreI haven't done a review for Butler Brew Works in a while but I felt it was time. When they first opened we not only loved their beer but their menu was off the charts good. Long story short, they lost their original chef and in my opinion their food from that point was mediocre... till now. They have a new chef that not only made a new menu, he made an AMAZING new menu. We have been back several times since he came on board and everything we have ate has been delicious and memorable. It's not enough anymore to have just good beer... you have to have the food/menu to go along with it. If any of you have been to Reclamation Brewery in Butler that is where they lack. Gave them many chances and their food is just not at the level of Butler Brew Works. The Peak pierogie dish is my absolute favorite! I had this dish a few years ago at a restaurant in Cranberry, Pig Iron. Unfortunately they didn't make it through the pandemic but I talked about that dish for years. And ironically it's the same chef. The Gyro eggrolls... We wished that we ordered two of those.. YHM! And the Asian poppers with the wasabi... So good! Thanks Butler Brew Works for stepping up your food game and thanks to the new chef for. His food and Butler Brew Works beer is a...
Read moreCasual, local bar/brewpub. Atmosphere was okay. Our waitress was nice but not very warm and welcoming. She rushed us to order. Seating is nice and it was pretty clean but the tables were sticky. Not recent stickiness but a buildup, I guess. With certain tabletops that is hard to avoid and I get that but I didn't like it. Menu is nice with elevated bar food. We tried the onion ring appetizer. The beer batter was very tasty. I ordered the General Butler chicken sandwich and received the Ragin' Cajun chicken sandwich. It was of good quality but I didn't care for the flavor profile, which is why I didn't order it to begin with. I upgraded my fries to chili cheese fries with there praised house made chili. The chili was mediocre. It didn't taste very refined. The beer cheese sauce was very good. I didn't care for their fries. They were truffle fries and they just weren't good. On a side note, my dining companion ordered a well done mushroom cheeseburger and she said it was delicious and cooked perfectly. I would maybe give Butler Brew Works another try but I'm not...
