Philz Coffee — Restaurant in Calabasas

Philz Coffee was... fine. My wife and I stopped by after a bike ride around the neighborhood, feeling good and caffeination-ready--only to discover there's nowhere decent to park a bike. We ended up wheeling them inside feeling like a couple bums looking for free water and public restrooms. The vibe? Minimalist, yes--but not in the cool, modernist sense. More like if a Burger King decided to sell pour-overs. The energy was low, the lighting flat, and the general mood inside felt like a Monday that never ended. I ordered the cold brew, which tasted like someone brewed drip coffee, forgot about it, then remembered and tossed it in the fridge for later. It wasn't bad, just... uninspired. Not the kind of drink you'd text a friend about. The baristas seemed like they were having a rough day, which happens--but we walked in buzzing from our ride and left feeling like someone had hit the emotional dimmer switch. After my first try of Philz coffee, the staff, the brew master Jonathan, the chic vibes, and of course, delicious brews have called me here for a second visit, this time with my mom! She wasn't too sure about her Chai but my tessora with Mocha was great and the mint mojito with 2 shots of mocha was perfect! I prefer ice coffee and drinking it without a straw is genius. The best part of my experience is Jonathan, who you may catch singing a tune to the radio (he's quite good!), when he's finished making your drink and places it uncapped in front of you, politely daring you give it a taste test. So, as I dramtically stoop to medium cup level for a hands free sip, I feel the flavors I was expecting and the ones I didn't know I needed put a smile on my face because HE GETS IT. Nothing like a fire batista who knows how to make a good brew!...

Philz Coffee is to die for!!!! This location opened up recently and I visited it for the first time today. I was so impressed with the wide variety of really unique coffee drinks! I love super unusual iced coffee drinks, and the minute I saw a “mint mojito iced coffee”, I knew this place would be good. And it was! They have tons of different iced coffee options, hot coffee, and other non-coffee drinks. I definitely want to come back ASAP and try more drinks. Great coffee, great atmosphere, and great people at the counter! 🙌🏻
