New in town & this was 1st Mex place I tried with friend. Went for lunch. Atmosphere was just OK, kind of like a cross between a cafe and bar & grill. It's rather small with only a few tables that were full, so there was no place to sit except at the bar. The owner served us. He was nice & knew that we were new. Prices were rather high ($12-16 for a-la-carte burrito), but the portions were very large & impressive. I could easily take half my burrito home. But my friend and I both agreed it wasn't the best Mex. food we'd had since we both thought the flavors were just average, They had homemade chipotle salsa, but gave only enough for about 1/2 my burrito. The biggest complaint I had is that since they skimped on the salsa, I asked for a refill for the 2nd half of my burrito. I got it in a plastic to-go condiment cup, so it was only a couple of tablespoons. I could not believe that we were charged $2 extra for that!! (especially by the owner trying to gain new customers.) I was dumbfounded and annoyed at the price gouging, especially for such a miniscule amount, & considering the high prices to begin with, & that they should give enough complimentary salsa to finish the meal. The place wasn't bad, and given the large portions, I'd like to try it again, but after the price gouging experience for average food, not sure if I'll go back. I've heard other experiential complaints about Estrella's by the locals, & there are other places in town that they recommend. I'll try some of them before picking my go-to place. Estrella's hasn't earned recommended repeat business...

So I only had a few minor complaints. Everything was fantastic except for slight issue ... The server didn't check back soon enough and we were approached by three different people during our 30 minute visit. One was the server who took our order, the other person brought the order, and try last person brought the check.
But nobody checked on us. I wanted more water and my guy wanted another margarita. I also wanted more chips n salsa because of the wait, and to order more tortillas because three wasnt enough for the carne asada fries.
The food was delicious and we will be back but be warned... If it sitting outside, there will be bees and flies. I wasn't too irritated by the bees myself, but the flies gross me out. As soon as another table left- about 5+ flies swarmed their plates and then tried making their way to our food.
The people are nice and wonderful. I know they can't control insects but I wanted to leave an open honest review.
Oh and they didn't have any salt for the margaritas. If I hadn't been so exhausted I'd have honestly offered to go to the store an bring back a tub just to donate- we are those type of people.
Again, we will be back!! Their carne...
Read moreUnfortunately since they have opened the new Estrella's cafe, their restaurant in town has gone downhill. We arrived at 5pm, Tuesday, for an early dinner. There were only 2 occupied tables and there were several staff members in the dining room who ignored us. After standing there for several minutes my husband asked if we could sit down. We were told we had to wait until the table was set up. My husband ordered fajitas and was told that they didn't have any fajita meat. The food was fair but the margaritas were terrible. We requested blended margaritas but received on the rocks. They tasted like koolade with alcohol, not the yummy margaritas I have had there in the past. For 4 people the bill was $84, totally not worth it. My husband tipped well, in spite of the poor service and disappointing food and drinks. Did they move the good bartender and servers to the newer restaurant? We...
