Golden Ox Brundage — Restaurant in California

This review is only in regards to their gyro sandwich. This place is my go to breakfast burrito place at all times of day but today I made the mistake of discovering terrible gyros. I debated not writing this review because I do really like this restaurant... But they should either make the gyros better or take them off the menu. My wife and I ordered the same lamb gyro sandwiche and both sandwiches tasted the same.

The gyros: meat is dry, stale, and tasteless. Tzetziki is the worst i have had...and I order a lot of gyros from all over the country. Not sure if suggesting the sauce was old and sour is any better than suggested that it was just terrible. The lettuce is okay with a few mass market (tasteless) tomatoes. Pita bread was okay but didn't taste fresh.

Service is good and the actual dinning area is always clean and very cold.

So...please do visit this restaurant but I would still just recommend the breakfast burritos, specifically the one with chili Verde.

I seldom ever venture away from the breakfast burritos as they rest of the food is just okay. I haven't had much of their other menu as I am always disappointed that the breakfast burrito was better, better than the burgers or pastrami or the chicken, or anything else on the menu. This restaurant is one of several here in Bakersfield with the name Golden Ox. I believe the first one was in Oildale, on the corner of Roberts Ln. and Chester Ave. This was in 1989 or close to it and the new restaurant was well received. It was noted for great pastrami, gyros, hamburgers, and large portions. It quickly expanded opening several additional locations. Over the years one closed down, one moved, one took over the Burger King location on E. Brundage next to the motel 6. It's a good fit for that location and I vouch for the pastrami, the burgers, and the service. I recall they do a really good patty melt as well. Sorry, this is going to be a Bad review everyone. The Burger taste like the propane on every single Bite. Oh, by the way the burger has shredded lettuce not whole leave lettuce. The fries where warm but seems like they fried them again. So, the fries seemed old. But also the fries Brown Not golden, hard like eating Porkrines or hard Jolly Ranchers. The only thing that's good here at this Golden Ox on Brundage Ln. and Weedpatch Hwy. is the Soda Coke. Well Calibrated l, well maybe because the Fountain Machine is New. Who cares Not coming back. I'd Go to The Golden Ox on White Lane and Stine. The Best Golden Ox Burger any where. I gave this place one star because of the Fountain drink....
