This is the most amazing Persian restaurant ever and we frequent it often. Kolbeh is managed and operated by a wonderful family and their very pleasant staff. The food is blissfully memorable. If you haven't eaten here, you really should try it. The lamb dishes are prepared with all the spices favored in middle eastern cooking. Kolbeh's lamb is wonderful. My husband favors "Lamb Shish Leek" (like lamb lollipops). I have never been much of an eggplant fan but Kolbeh has taught me that when it is prepared correctly, it is delicious. We now love their eggplant appetizer. They have a flame grilled steak that is truly the most perfect steak that money can buy. Chicken kabobs are my favorite with saffron rice, topped with barberries (similar to cranberries). Various rice dishes accompany the entrees. Flat bread and herbs and feta cheese start every meal. From their kabobs to their seafood dishes you will not be disappointed. My only disappointment is with myself. I should have reviewed Kolbeh Kabobs for everyone years ago. This restaurant continues to provide delicious food and friendly service year over year over year. Don't be afraid of trying new cuisines. You will find out what you've been missing. Go try Kolbeh Steaks & Kabobs on Greenback Lane in Orangevale and experience Mediterranean cuisine...
Read moreI love Kolbeh Kabob. It's about a 30 minute drive from me but the food is very much worth the drive.
It's located in a tiny 3 storefront plaza off of Greenback and there is parking in the lot.
You'll notice that the restaurant has a real Persian feel as the decor is made to make you feel as if you are in the Holy Land.
They always start you off with a bread basket that has Feta cheese and herbs. Pro tip: Take a piece of bread, add some cubes of the Feta cheese, grab a handful of the herbs and make it into a sandwich. It's heaven!
The food is made to order and comes fresh out of the oven. The chicken kabob (thigh, although breast is available as well) is so juicy. The lunch portion comes with a lot of rice, grilled tomato, and half a skewer of chicken. The dinner comes with even more rice, and extra grill tomato, and a whole skewer of chicken.
I also love getting a glass of the hot Persian tea. It has a hint of cardamom which settles the stomach nicely.
The service is always attentive and while it can get busy at times, they are always checking on you to make sure you're having a great experience.
Try the Persian ice cream and Baklava for dessert. So...
Read moreWorst koobideh and chicken kabab of my life! We ordered chicken kabab and koobideh, the koobideh was tasting horrible!! Koobideh has a simple recipe! To reduce the cost, they added liver in koobideh instead!! There was an extremely heavy lamb liver taste in koobideh. I called the server and asked if there is liver in the koobideh as I am allergic to liver, and the owner , Mr. Ali, insisted that there was no liver in the koobideh. However, there was liver in the koobideh for sure!!! I make koobideh myself and I have been to MANY Persian restaurants… Also the koobideh was falling apart. They put too much baking soda in it, as well. The chicken kabob’s color was RED! Instead of saffron, they had put paprika sauce… The salad shirazi was not fresh, and the rice was too greasy… We could eat less than one third of our food. Our server was a nice lady but the food was THE WORST Persian food I have ever had in my life… Shame on you for representing Iranian kitchen so badly. Go to Rumi’s Kitchen in Washington D.C. and learn how...
