Read moreA simple diner, mostly catering to immediate locals. With a Denny's across the street, that isn't an easy feat to accomplish, but they do so successfully.
Although the atmosphere is warm, clean, and pulls off being modern with a rustic flavor, I can't say I felt welcome upon arriving, or even when ordering. Nevertheless, they made sure my coffee mug was never empty. Music choice was 80's - a happy change from country western - and played at a comfortable volume that did not interfere with conversation. The menu is classic breakfast and lunch options. I didn't get a chance to try the bacon, which appears in the menu as a flagship item. My meal was chicken fried steak with eggs, biscuit and fruit. The fruit was not just cantaloupe and honeydew melon, but had orange, grapefruit, pear, and apple slices, along with grapes and blackberries. Nice combination! The steak was a little heavy with breading, but still moist and tender. The biscuit was light, soft, moist, and fluffy, served with soft - not frozen - butter, making it easy to spread, and it melted into the biscuit nicely. The eggs arrived just like I ordered them: over medium, not hard or soft. Well done! The clientele was a family mix, not just retirees. Groups of younger ones, couples with toddlers, single readers, and locals bringing friends along filtered in and out during my stay.
While there wasn't much to put this place out in front or over the top for 5 stars, they made a solid hit in giving me a calm, pleasant dining experience. I will return to try...

The server who first assisted us was lovely. She was attractive and friendly. My grandson who is 13 ordered a cheeseburger from the kid's portion of the menu. Another server came to our table right after our server walked away and told us that we couldn't order a kid's meal because he was too old. We changed the order from a $9 burger to a $17 cheeseburger. The patty was tiny and I couldn't tell what could possibly be different between the kid's meal we wanted and the one we were forced to order. The rest of our food was mediocre at best- the fruit was not fresh, the hollandaise sauce on my veggie Benedict was watery and not seasoned well. The fries were my favorite; they were crispy and seasoned really well.
I looked at the menu before leaving and confirmed that nowhere on the menu does it say anything about an age limit on kids' meals. This was our first time here and while we were excited to try it, it will be our last due to our rude server who felt the need to gouge us for a burger my grandson ate about half of. We will take our business where customers are appreciated.
Two stars are for our original server. I don't recall her name but she had lovely, unique hair, long lashes and...
