Ojai Deer Lodge is a beautiful little spot off the Maricopa Highway in Ojai. The thing I like best is that you can go in there dressed up nicely and you will look like you are dressed appropriately. On the other hand , you can go in there dressed in biker leathers and a tank top, and you are dressed appropriately. I went in dressed in my board shorts and T-shirt with a patagonia jacket and sandals and I fit in fine. Dress code is whatever you feel good in. They have great steaks and great sandwiches and a fine assortment of drinks on tap. I say drinks because its not just beer, but also Kombucha (it is Ojai after all) and hard ciders. The staff is pleasant and attentive and everyone feels welcome. Outside seating is elegant and comfortable with a fire going and a tropical feel as well. Vegetarians are also welcome, but may feel a tad uncomfortable with deer heads and antlers that cover the walls of the Deer Lodge. It's eclectic, but homey at the same time. I realize there seems to be no real trend in the description, it's because the place has a little something for everyone. If you go on a Sunday evening expect a large contingent of Bikers. But again they are welcoming and you will not feel like you are intruding on their territory. Indeed the Deer Lodge is welcome to everyone who wants to enjoy some good food and drink in a fun and...
Read moreI'm sorry but some of the pictures of their food must be REAL OLD... bc the food did not look like this yesterday (5/18/19). My husband had been here w buddies sometime last year when their tri-tip sandwiches looked like the ones pictured (w the onion strings) but Not anymore.. plain sandwich nothing on it except BBQ sauce and 3 sorry slices of tri-tip. Their taco plate is TINY and actually an appetizer, beware of this bc it doesn't come with any side. For $12, those mini tacos could have at least come w some salsa. If you haven't ever been here, you need to know the following: Great first date spot, cute restaurant and since they have very small portions, you won't leave overly full. Doesn't seem kid friendly, I did not see a kid's menu nor was I offered one. If you like Wendy's (fast food chain) chilli, then you'll like theirs, bc it tastes the same. $5 dollar apple juice (6oz), $10 Mac n chz (1 cup), $16 burgers, weak tri-tip. We were very disappointed w the food, overpriced and not good. Unfortunately this place is all...
Read moreWidely known to be a local pub and a biker stop at the bottom of a wonderful canyon road, Highway 33.
I finally decided to make a stop with my mates to enjoy some lunch on a fabulous Saturday. With the BBQ smoker blazing away we were greeted quickly and received a couple of tables to accommodate our party.
The atmosphere is rustic and inviting. The food is average to above average. Weekend BBQ included a pull pork sandwich and BBQ spare ribs. The fat ratio in the pull pork sandwich could have been better and the ribs were quite dry. They served six ribs and a side for $16. The BBQ sauced was simply squirted on top of the pile of ribs.
Soft drinks were an astounding $4! Quite a tourist trap price I have to admit.
Our server was happy to offer separate checks, which I commend them for, and I am certainly happy to not be charged the "kitchen fee" as I have read on other reviews.
Other than the location and the quaintness of decor, Deer Lodge, may not be of great value other than a casual watering hole for...
