Jolly Kone — Restaurant in California

On 8/31/15 went there to get a chocolate shake with some friends who just moved into Ojai. Arrived preciously at 6:45pm. Walked to the window to order and was told by the young woman behind the counter that they were closed. I said it's posted on the internet that you are open till 7:00pm. She replied with an attitude, that they are already cleaning the kitchen so we cannot make anything for you. Then her tone got even worse and she continued to say "we close at 6:40 and it's always been that way". We were quite taken back by her words and attitude. What establishment closes at 6:40? What an odd time to close! So we went to Ojai Frostie for our shakes and they were more than happy to serve us even though it was very close to their closing time. I sure hope the owner of Jolly Kone knows what a horrible experience their employee...

Jolly Kone serves up all the classic American drive-in favorites: burgers and dogs, shakes and ice cream. They are independently owned and one of a kind...not a chain or franchise, which adds to it's appeal. No fancy frills, outdoor seating only, which is fine as long as the weather is nice. On my most recent visit I reached out to the chilli cheeseburger, which came slathered in thick, chunky chilli and melted cheese and was wonderfully messy. You're gonna need a knife and fork for this, I guarantee. The only negative thing I can say about this joint is that their business hours are weird. They close really early and are closed on Sunday, but if you can catch them when they ARE open,...

Love this place! They have lovely outside dining underneath umbrellas with Flagstone and a gorgeous setting. I've been going here with my family since I was 10 years old and it's literally a locals favorite! If you have not ate at Jolly Kone, you should, if you have... Well then I'm sure you continue to eat there just like us! Do be aware however that they close at 6 p.m. many customers were coming after 6 because they saw people still on the patio eating and I have never seen the reactions and appalled faces like those getting turn down to an already closed kitchen at Jolly Kone! Dont be amongst the sad faces. Get there to order @ least by 5:45. They are absolutely owning up...
