Five stars based off of everything that we have purchased. This place has been on my list of restaurants to try after hearing really good word of mouth reviews. Not much southern style food in this area, so this one commended a visit. We purchased a plethora of items the first time here, ranging from the shrimp and catfish po' boys to an order of jamablaya and desserts. The po boys were amazing, a light and airy roll filled with crispy seafood that wasn't too heavy on batter or oily feeling. The shredded cabbage and remoulade sauce that the seafood laid on was really complementary to the textures of the other components. 10/10 sandwich experience that didn't leave you too full. The fries were also really awesome. Beer battered I believe and had a slight seasoned taste to them. All of this was enhanced by some basic vinegary hot sauce packets that they give you with a take out order. My girlfriend got an order of Jambalaya and rice to take home later in the week that she raved about for days to come.
The desserts also commend a separate review, as they are insanely high quality. We initially wanted some of the sweet potato cake but they were all sold out! We ended up with an order of peach cobbler and a sweet potato pie. The peach cobbler is capped with a crumbly type of crust. When you break open that cap of goodness, you reveal an interior that is loaded down with peaches and cinnamon spiced syrupy goodness. This thing was amazing. It lasted me a few days as I chipped away at it here and there. It held up really well over that time in the fridge. The sweet potato pie is a top tier dessert. This thing had us talking about it for days on end until we could go back for another. The sweet potato pie is sort of along the lines of an egg custard tart texture from Chinese dim sum. The crust is really flakey and when you actually get into the flavor profile of it, you're hit by a mixture of spices, vanilla and a hint of sweet potato. It's so good that we had to go back for another.
On the most recent trip, we lucked out and purchased ourselves a slice of the sweet potato cake and also grabbed a slice of the carrot cake. The carrot cake is really sort of tropical tasting, with a pineapple taste to the cake itself, complemented by a light cream cheese frosting and a healthy balance of shredded carrot and spices. Now to the sweet potato cake. This cake takes you to a complete higher level of existence. The texture to the cake is amazingly balanced with a squishy and well spiced cake, then slightly thick layers of cream cheese based frosting, topped off with toasted pecans. The textures and well balanced flavors make this a game changer. All in all, we can not wait for the next time we go visit...
Read moreNormally I would give this place five stars but my last visit with my sister from out of town. I took her there for breakfast last week as she loves biscuits and gravy and this place has the best hands down!! Unfortunately the service was not good this day. There were three of us that ordered breakfast. My sister and I both ordered the two egg breakfast with biscuit and gravy. My niece ordered chicken fried steak. My niece's chicken fried steak came out first which was fine and then they brought my sisters 2egg breakfast a few minutes later and I never did get my 2egg breakfast.. I did get my biscuit and gravy so I did eat that but had to ask where my breakfast was and got a blank stare.. needless to say, we were on our way to Concord to pick up a family member at the hospital and I did not want to wait any longer for my breakfast so I canceled it and went to the restroom. As I went to the restroom they brought my breakfast so my sister told him I canceled it and made them take it back. I will definitely be back but I believe the service needs to improve. If it was busy that morning I would not mind as much but it was not that busy and we got there when they opened. People came in after us and got their food when I was still...
Read moreFor whatever reason our wait time for food was longer than expected. Had two orders, Country Fried steak and Steak and Eggs. The country fried steak came out and it was fine but the steak and eggs took an extra 15 minutes for no reason. Came out and was way overcooked when it was supposed to be medium rare. When we brought up that the steak was overcooked the waitress didn't seem to want to have to correct it so we had to ask for it to be redone. What we should've done was ask for it to be taken off of the tab because it was taking too long. Within a few minutes a new steak was brought out and dropped off at the table cooked correctly (so it didn't make sense about why it took so long the first time). No apology was offered. It caused me to notice that service was terrible. No refills on drinks. No napkins. No one came by until they dropped off the check. You had to be a certain type of people to get any real service. Terrible way to run a business. Wanted to like this place and support the small business but after the experience I'd rather just go to any other breakfast chain. My advice is save your time and money and...
