Be concerned about the bad reviews that are already posted here. First, the food is good. Pizza, pasta, brunch, all good. And the service when I have dined in has been fine. But I'm leaving this review because of a to-go order that was poorly handled by the restaurant and its management.
My 11 y.o. daughter wanted pasta for dinner but didn't want to go out. I called Serritella's to pick up dinner.
My daughter wanted the kids spaghetti w/ minestrone soup. She's a vegetarian, so I ordered it w/ marinara specifically. I ordered beef ravioli w/ mariana.
Placed the order, paid and picked it up. I called my daughter and asked if she wanted to eat outside bc the weather was nice. I brought the food home and set up a table for us outside.
Unfortunately, the order was wrong. My daughter's spaghetti had meat sauce, and the other entree was cheese ravioli with meat sauce, not beef ravioli with marinara sauce. The ravioli I would have just eaten, but my daughter is a vegetarian so meat sauce wasn't going to work. I called the restaurant and the person I spoke to sounded a bit confused, but I explained what I had ordered and how it was wrong and she told me I could get the correct food in 15 min. I thought that was the end of it. Mistakes happen. I was looking forward to dinner with my daughter, but I wasn't mad or upset about it, it was just a mistake and they were fixing it and I didn't think much of it all. We were already sitting outside, and it was now about to get chilly already (this has been a very weird but pleasant summer for Sacramento!). She had some bread sticks and minestrone (they're both good). So about 3 minutes later, a few minutes before I was planning to head over, I got a call. It was another person from Serritella's.This is when things started to get strange.
She asked if I had placed an order and asked me my name. I told her my name, and told her what had happened: my original order, how it was wrong, how I had recently called back and was told the restaurant was preparing the correct order.
The woman who called me said, wait, so you ordered the kids spaghetti w/ marinara and meat ravioli w/ mariana? I said yes that's what I told--and she interrupted me, "but that's what it says on the order, that means the kitchen messed it up and that almost never happens..." And there was a a real tone of skepticism in her voice. I was thinking to myself, what in the world is going on? Why am I having this conversation? On the one hand, it seemed like I was part of the restaurant's internal investigation into what had happened with my order, but I didn't care about that; I just wanted the food I ordered and paid for. On the other hand, I also felt like I was in trouble or under suspicion. She next said, "well I'm going to put you on hold because you need to talk to the manager." And then I was on hold. Did they think I was lying? After a few minutes I decided I would just head there while i was on hold. My phone was on speaker and then the call ended like they hung up. A minute later they called me back. It was the same woman who said ok here's the manager. The manager came on the line. All she said was, "Yes?" At this point I was so confused. I said hi I don't understand what's going on, I just called to get my correct order and then I got a call back saying I had to talk to the manager and then they hung up on me. The manger told me I had hung up on their employee. I said no, I was on hold and on the line the whole time and then the call just ended. Manager said, "Well we don't understand because your order was written down correctly and the kitchen never makes mistakes like that." I told her I didn't know what happened, I have explained my order to four people there now and I'm hoping I can pick up the right one now. She asked me again what my order was, I told her, and she icily told me it would be ready in five minutes. It was ready when I got there, I saw it on the counter. But it took them 5 minutes to get it and bring it to me, I don't understand why. It was weird and a...
Read moreI want to love this place but after 10+ years of going here they have lived up to the disappointing and great reviews you see on all these review sites.
We have been here thru supposedly different owner's/management and it has always been the same up and down food/service.
Where to begin?... Parking sucks pure and simple, not really their fault but just another negative point.
The inside has an old Italian feel, but that is because it's old, thry really need a minor remodel and just update some of old blinds, candle holders, chair's and furniture.
The climate control is always set to hot, I'm a big guy so im usually hot but I have been here with people who get cold easily and like it warmer and even they said it was too warm inside.
Service is literally a 50/50 percentage of being great or bad, sometimes we come and our drinks are always refilled, they come and ask us how we are doing often and are very personable. Then you get the times like we had last night where our waiter came once every 10-12 mins... for a couple ordering two dinner entrées it took us an hour and 20 mins to get thru dinner. We wanted to order dessert but didnt want to wait any longer and at the current time the place was maybe 25% at capacity. So there was really no excuse for it to take so long for any part of our meal.
The food when they are on their game is awesome which is about a 75% of the time. When its not good it is really bad/salty/greasy/incorrect. Not sure why but literally its all of those things simultaneously, its like the head chef leaves and the remaining chefs don't care.
I held off on reviewing them for years since like i said before for some reason i want to love this place but last night's service is what finally pushed me to make a...
Read moreMy wife and I recently moved to Carmichael and were craving Italian food. I did a quick search for places near us and had a hard time finding anything but pizza places. Serritella's was close so we headed there hoping for best. .. .Yes they serve pizza and we will try theirs when we are in the mood. We were greeted immediately by a very cheerful hostess and escorted to a table. We were given 3 menus, one with the pizzas, one with their specialty cocktails and craft beers (non-craft too but I don't drink those), and another with their entrées and sides. Our waitress swung by and asked us if we needed more time. We told her we were new to the area and she excitedly welcomed us. She shared a little history of the restaurant and also how the chef had added new things to the menu. We wanted to try a variety of pasta so we ordered the combo, selecting lasagna, tortellini and spaghetti all with a meat sauce and a side of meatballs. Everything was absolutely delicious. The pasta was all cooked perfectly and the meat sauce was very flavorful. Even though we were absolutely stuffed, we couldn't pass up desert. My wife ordered their Profiteroles and I got the chocolate mouse cake. These were the tallest Profiteroles we have ever seen! The pastry was nice and airy, stuffed with vanilla ice cream and loaded with whipped cream. We struggled to finish eating our dessert. My chocolate mouse cake was one of the best I have had. We told them we are definitely coming back. We have to try the...
