All in all, this is clearly a local favorite that is much beloved by its community. Unfortunately, i think that the pies are generally just alright. They are slightly better than the pies you can pick up at most major chains and the staff is generally cordial and friendly.
However, the crusts tend to be middling in quality, and certain styles, such as the deep dish, feel like a very west coast nod to the real deal, which isn't bad, but I just wish that was somehow clearer from the get-go. After trying that style twice, just to see if it was an off day the first time, I feel that I can confidently say that their deep dish is more of a vague nod to authentic deep dish styles.
Other issues I have is that their pies are rather forgettable to be up at their price point. The pesto sauce is hardly robust and gets lost in the pie for how little of it they use. The toppings aren't bad, but they're similarly all very standard. I want to emphasize, however, that this is kind of the normal experience for what I've experienced with local little pizza shops like this one. It isn't an affront to pizza. It isn't a scam or a poor excuse for what it advertises.
Just, as a foodie and a scrutinizing customer, I personally can't see a justification to come back to Strobelli's after my fifth time trying their sandwiches and pies. It is neither upsettingly bad nor really worth the marked up rate for what you're getting. Supporting local business is a virtue, a good practice, and generally the right thing to do, but it should also feel good to do, as a customer, so all in all, I wouldn't personally recommend this as more than an experimental one-off to try and see if you vibe with their...
Read moreI ordered a medium Chicago style all meat pizza. The total was $35 delivered (not including tip)
At this price I had pretty high expectations but finished my meal with some complaints.
The pizza was not cut all the way through, a couple pieces got ripped up. Annoying but not a huge deal.
The pizza and ingredients tasted good but I feel like they used too much cheese (I never thought that was a thing). At some spots the cheese was actually thicker than the crust. Is that normal? The mozzarella is quite mild so it wasn't really overpowering, just shocking. Surprisingly the grease seemed to stay inside the cheese and not soak the crust which is an incredible feat of culinary engineering.
Overall it was good but the high prices mean I can only order here on special occasions.
I think if they lowered the price and took off some cheese to compensate, it would be 5 stars easy. Also sharpen the pizza cutters lol
Thinking back, part of the cost must have been a delivery fee, but I still feel my comments would...
Read moreStrombelli's is one of the best pizza restaurants in all of Sacramento California!
Prepare yourself for a delicious pie and enjoy the ride. Strombelli's pizza comes complete with your choice of thin crust or thicker Chicago style crust and an extensive selection of fresh meat and veggie toppings. Believe it or not, I've saved the best for last... All of this cheesy pizza goodness is nestled comfortably into a tomato sauce consistently ranked on the 'Top Sauces in Sac' Top 10 list and I can tell why it makes the list every year!
In addition, Stombelli's Pizza is more affordable than their (lackluster in comparison) competition - Roundtable and Mountain Mike's. Save money and leave satisfied, choose Strombellis Pizza and you leave half you did.
My only request is the owner expand the business and open a second location closer to Citrus Heights so I can enjoy their amazing food closer to home.
Thanks Strombelli's staff for giving the restaurant a family feel and positive...
