I decided to give the Sushi Spot another go since it was once my favorite sushi place in California. Unfortunately, my visit at the Sushi Spot did not bode well. I went to the restroom to wash my hands before eating, however, there was no soap. I approached the hostess to inform her of the empty soap container and was told, “oh well, life goes on.” Her rude and condescending response seemed hypocritical since the sign posted on the front door demanded any unvaccinated patrons wear a mask. So, unvaccinated customers must wear a mask but employees can return from the bathrooms without washing their hands? I think the health department should make a visit. I would love to see how well the employees lives go on when their restaurant gets shut down. And I know the employees use that restroom because I have seen them many times during my once frequent visits. I don’t remember seeing hepatitis on the menu but I never looked under employee favorites.
2017 Review
For the past eight months or so, the Shushi Spot has become a depressing place. The staff walks around with solemn stares as if their dog just died. The emnity grows if the staff is asked to provide anything other than one's meal. I often feel as if patron presence is unwelcome, especially when the wait person drops the requested item(s) on the table without a single glance in their customer's direction. I used to be treated by a nice woman that smiled and welcomed us. She was pleasant and kind. Today, the dreary staff brings a happy mood, to wanting to slit my wrists. Not to mention the wait staff's consistent snails pace, which left us sitting for two hours, festering an eager haste to depart with questions of returning. I thought the waitstaff might be happier if I left a strong tip, however, that was thankless and ineffective. My thoughts are, if you are depending on customers to pay your rent, treat them with some dignity and respect. SMILE! I only give the restaurant two stars for their sushi. It is good most...
Read moreI was really excited to try sushi stop. Especially after I'd seen so many good reviews. It was New Year's Eve and it was my fiance's first time actually having decent sushi. So I was really excited to try some with him. We were told that our order would be ready in an hour and a half, and to pick it up right before they were about to close. We ordered a couple sushi rolls and some vegetable tempura. To our disappointment, the tempura was a small amount for the price and the vegetables were in a greasy box, literally sitting on a greasy doily in a pile of grease. Everything tasted old and greasy. A total of $50.00 this cost, the salmon in the sushi tasted very fishy, and it overpowered everything else. It was terrible. I apologize to my fiance and said well, we'll just take pictures and report this to the manager tomorrow and ask for our money back. Later on that night, I ended up getting a stomach ache from the fish. 😣 The next day, he went in to ask for our money back and the manager at the McKinleyville store said she wasn't going to give us our money back. She said that we should have brought the food in that night and we explained to her that they were already closed. He showed her the images, then asked if he could speak to her manager try to resolve this issue and the manager refused to give him a phone number, or any information as to who the owner was or who her supervisor is.
I have worked in and as a manager in food service for over 20 years, and I cannot imagine ever telling an upset customer that they cannot speak to my boss. To me that's just insane. It's one thing to get bad food, but to refuse to resolve the issue or give any information as to who you can contact further, is downright unprofessional and rude. I refuse to ever eat at any sushi stop after...
Read moreAmazing food, amazing service by, I think, an owner or location manager, and great atmosphere. 2 issues, but our anniversary dinner here was great overall. 1, I love fish tanks and wanted to sit near the giant saltwater, but I did notice a distinct fish filter smell where I was near the sump. Probably something that's fixed whenever they have their maintenance come by but if I wasn't a fish keeper, it might have bothered me a lot more. (Great experience with the huge tank otherwise though) And 2, unsurprisingly, the prices.
It was worth the price for a special event, but as good as it was there is just no way we can eat here regularly. Wife's sashimi plate was beautiful and almost $40, but she was full and I had a few pieces. Rolls are about $16-19 avg, and luckily I knew the ones I liked already and they did not disappoint, but I just wish it was more affordable. We overheard a conversation and sounds like they're doing what they can and this is just the economic conditions these days so this is unlikely to change, but it's worth knowing what youre in for before you experience sticker shock. I actually so appreciate that tip/gratuity is fixed, even though I've heard drama from others around this. Ideally we would never tip at all like other countries but anything that removes the variables is good in my book, even if I kinda just wish they'd reflect +18% on the menu and not add anything at all. Oh well, you'll scare off the McK crowd if they really knew what it was going to cost, I imagine. Recommended to try if you can afford a...
