Safeway — Restaurant in California

Normally the service at my local McKlinleyville Safeway is great; never any complaints....but tonight was a different story. This terrible experience had nothing to do with the staff - I felt for each and every one of them. They were obviously very short staffed, and on a busy Friday evening. The two lines for the check-out were beyond unbelievable. Both lines (for the 15 items or less and regular) reached the distance of the store. By the time I actually reached the register, my line had apparently begun to swirl around through the produce section of the store. The checker, Casey, apologized, as did the bagger - but this was not at all their fault. They both looked very stressed out - the whole scene was crazy. Everyone was so amazed at how long the lines had become and how quickly they were growing! McKinleyville Safeway - please don't let this happen again. It's not fair to your customers or your employees. If I'm in this situation again, I'll walk and leave my cart behind. Very...

They removed the sit down area!!! You can no longer grab some food or come in and warm up or relax. Nowhere to sit down and eat, no place to charge your appliances either. Horrible employee directions. The woman kept trying to get me to go sit on the cold ground outside while she holds my phone. She wouldn't stop asking me for my phone! And the employees said there was NOWHERE I could go to sit down and eat or warm up or charge my phone anywhere in town... They ASSURED me there was nothing. Of course as I leave 1 block South there is a Starbucks... of course! Horrible employees and lots of stuff I disliked about this store. Just go to one of the other markets close by instead. The only reason I went to safeway instead of the natural food store is because I assumed it had a seating area and I was wrong... And disappointed in the employees possibly trying to steal my phone and giving me bad directional advice and false information. Hate this store....

My one star is for the security guard who has always been incredibly kind & looks out for store patrons. The aisles in this store are so packed, it's almost impossible for two carts to pass. Most of all, though, I am continually amazed at the lack of service. I've been coming to this store for over 2 years & I've literally never had my groceries bagged. Never. The staff will stand there chatting with each other while I bag & make my payment. They've stood by & watched my kids bag. The employees do not lift a finger other than to push my items down to the end if I've not completed my bagging by the time they're done so they can start checking the next person. Safeway, if you're going to make customers bag, you need to renovate your check stands so it's at least ergonomic for your customers. I'm sure you have some great employees at this location, but unfortunately my experience has been bad for the last 2+ years & I'm done shopping...
