We took a day trip from NoHo to Solvang on Saturday. All was well until our son started feeling car sick so in a mad rush to get off the freeway we took the next exit that came up in Camarillo.
We get off and make the next right into the nearest little shopping center and park to wait it out and it just so happened to be right in front of Old New York Deli & Bakery.
After my son felt better, we decided to go in to grab some coffee and a light snack before getting back on the road. We have never heard if this place and when walked in we were pleasantly surprised.
Incredibly tempting pastery cases filled with so many different choices right as you walk in making it impossible to resist. Cheescake slices, danishes, cupckaes, fresh croissants, bagels & rolls, cookies..... on and on with so many choices and the presentation was beautifully done.
They have breakfast, lunch and even dinner choices so my son had a burger, hubz had bagel & schmear and I had an egg, bacon & cheese bagel breakfast sandwich since it was still pretty early in the day.
The bagels were AMAZING. Just the right amount of the smallest little crunch on the outside and the inside was so fresh and soft. Same texture with the fries! Everything was delicious!
Although we were so tempted to stock up on pastries, we were heading to Solvang which is considered the Danish and pastry capitol of California so we ate our delicious food, forced ourselves to skip the pastries and got back on the road.
Traffic to Solvang was so bad that we didn't get there until 4pm which majorly sucked because every bakery was sold out of the cheese, lemon and raspberry danishes and pretty much everything else for that matter.
We tried a few "freshky baked" cookies and were lucky enough to find pineapple and apple danishes on the way out but they weren't anything to write home about, thats for sure. Evem at these Solvang bakeries they just didn't have the appeal of ONYB&D's and U couldn't help but compare.
So we left Solvang and literally headed straight back to Old New York Deli & Bakery. We couldn't wait to get there to be completely honest and when we arrived it was time for dinner. So we are now having our 2nd visit in one day, lol.
Our son got the Salmon plate, hubz and I both got Pastrami sandwiches. Once again, everything was above par. In fact, last weekend we went to The Hat in Pasadena to try their world famous Pastrami and at the time I thought it was the best Ive had.....until now.
The Pastrami at ONYB&D was perfect and I had it on a Kaiser roll which was the softest and yummiest Ive ever had.
The salmon plate came with Quinoa and my son had never tried it before so we substituted it for fries. (Salmon and fries, yeah, I know). The manager, who's name I didn't catch, was so wonderfully sweet to our son and even got him to try the Quinoa which is a feat in itself. He ate it all up, I couldn't believe it!
Getting him to try something new is almost impossible but she had a very "sweet" way about getting him to eat it. (inside joke, the mgr will get it though)
Id also like to note that my order and ordering technique was really unusual and confusing. Id just like to say thank you to the young man who patiently and graciously attended to us. I know it was probably super annoying.
We took a slice of brownie cheesecake (which was huge btw) a chocolate chip cannoli, a cookie monster cupcake, frosted sugar cookies... We tasted a little of everything when we got home and WOW, just so delicious and fresh and yummy! It was difficult not to devour everything at once.
We literally had no idea about this place and finding it was an unplanned, happy, serendipitous accident. After Googling it we saw there is a location in Woodland Hills which is closer to us and we are very excited about that because its a kittle closer to us. I just hope everyone and everything there is just as wonderful as the Camarillo location.
Who needs pasteries from Solvang or Pastrami from The Hat when there is ONYD&B!

Read moreDoes not deserve 4.3 stars it's definitely the worst service I've ever had, along with the most disappointing food, which is why I felt the need to write this review! Just made me rethink trying a new spot with a lot of good reviews because I go based on that a lot of times.
Be warned they cater to white people first! Makes absolutely no sense since it's mainly Mexicans working there, and they usually show gratitude to a fellow one. I had to wait for this older white man to get his order while he's paying at the same time (like talk about privileged) instead of taking my order i had to wait in line but it gets worse! So I finally placed my order after about 10 min waiting for that person I mentioned, and I'm witnessing everyone getting their food except me( I haven't really ever experienced anything like that in my life if thats not whats considered favoritism I don't know what could be or many people would claim racism without a doubt if they were in the same scenario!!!) So I'm waiting over 50 min for my order, and they have the nerve to serve the table across from us that's only been sitting there for like 10 min and it's a big order that they got wrong meanwhile I'm still waiting for my burger (that shouldn't take that long)!! Everyone else already ate and left while I'm still waiting for my food ... I could've cooked myself my own food during that time span. I didn't think it was going to get any worse, but it definitely did! The burger finally shows up, and it's the most bland burger I've ever had!! I don't know what they had against me or if they're just dumb because they had a whole toothpick in the burger hidden so good that I bit into it and could've been a huge problem/injury!!!!! Every time, if there's a toothpick in a sandwich/burger, THEY MAKE IT SO VISIBLE ON TOP TO TAKE OUT!! I really didn't enjoy it at all and requested a refund it's crazy to think that a worthless catfished burger was worth that much 23$ !! Even the server didn't know about the toothpick or just playing dumb and it's impossible to see it in the first picture, but see for yourself in the first picture!
That photo has over a thousand views but not a single reaction. It is such a shame that people can support something like this and keep spending...

I have a feeling their bagels are probably very good. It’s hard to find true NY boiled bagels out here so maybe we’ll try that, but if you’re expecting a NY Deli experience this isn’t it.
First off it’s not a restaurant with waitress service. You have to order at the register, and if you can read the menu you’ve got way better eyesight than any of us did. We asked for actual menus. Still tiny print but legible. No prices on anything so it’s a guessing game.
The ordering experience was ok. Really cute cashier, but she talked so fast and honestly made it seem like it was a bother to wait on us.
When our food was delivered there was a register receipt tucked under one of our sandwiches for an omelette. Not sure which patron was missing their receipt, since it wasn’t ours, but it would up under our food.
Corned beef was so tough it was like rubber, ungodly lean which was a huge issue, and cut way too thick. The bread was huge so the meat seemed really insignificant for the sandwich, although it was plenty of meat. The rye bread was good, but absolutely nothing like NY Rye. Brisket was cut with the grain, which is something you learn not to do in Deli 101, and was like rubber bands
French fries were obviously just it of a bag of frozen fries, which again is fine, but ours were cold. .
Many tables left unbussed, which is logical since there wasn’t really wait staff. More a “Bring your food over” person.
Flat screen TVs playing the QVC station. Restrooms were dirty and hard to get in and out of because of boxes of food supplies stored right n front of them.
I grew up in NYC and have the experience of the best of NY Deli, and thus wasn’t it.
Maybe I’ll try their bagels sometime, though honestly Noah’s is right up the street and even though they’re not authentic boiled bagels at least the folks there are over the top wonderful and make you feel that you’re...
