Staff: They seem very nice and genuinely want to please. Community: They don't seem to have many customers. It would be a shame for the community to loose a family run business. If I went back, I'd do it to give them my business. Cheap Pancakes

Reasons Not to Eat at Francis Family Restaurant

Unprofessionalism: The atmosphere and professionalism leaves so much to be desired! We were greeted by one person, and handed off to another to be seated. Yet another took our order and verbally communicated it to another server. I believe someone else brought us our food. We felt very confused. Staff: They seem like they haven't learned how to run a restaurant yet. It seems like a family had an idea and opened a restaurant without training. It doesn't feel very restaurant like. Cleanliness: Everything seemed dirty, and the menu was disgusting. It was scuffed, pealing, dirty, and generally gross. I wanted to perpetually wash my hands while I was there. Food: The food was easily the worst part of our experience. We ordered what they recommended and it was almost inedible. The homemade chips were burnt and the rest of the food we only touched. Growing up, I was always taught to clean my plate and still do, but on this occasion, we left the food and went somewhere else to eat.

All in all, I fully expected to like it, but really didn't. It may have gotten better, but I'm not brave...

We've eaten here twice, once for breakfast and most recently for lunch. Both meals were good. For lunch today, I had a simple grilled cheese sandwich with French fries. I remarked to our server that it was one of the best grilled cheese w/fries combos that I've ever had. The fries were crispy and very light brown with just the right amount of salt - they obviously use fresh oil. The sandwich was perfectly toasted with a wonderful, crispy crunch to the bread. My wife had the breakfast sandwich on a biscuit, with ham as the meat. It was stacked thick with thinly sliced ham. I had a diet cola and she had water. The total bill was only $13.76!

Service is excellent. It's a family run restaurant, and both times I've sensed their pride in their establishment. Francis Family Restaurant is a real gem in downtown Cambridge. And they have an awesome ice cream station right up front! We'll...

TLDR/fantastic food and great staff

Not the type of place I would typically go, but we were in a small town and desperate. We were immediately served and greeted by very friendly staff. Abby was our server and she was beyond kind, attentive, and personable without being pushy. I saw Abby‘ step away for a moment for a quick break and immediately another server came and made sure we had enough water. It was a relief to see staff work so well together as a team.

The food was well below my expectation as far as price and definitely higher than expectation as far as quality and taste. My hamburger tasted like what a Whopper wants to be when it grows up. Very...
