This is one of my two favorite restaurants in all of Boston! I always eat here when I can make it in time. (which is sadly not often enough since they close the kitchen at 7:50 and I'm a night person) I've been coming here for 15+ years and I just can't get enough of the katsu curry udon! It's the best, and no other restaurants make curry udon like this with the egg, veggies and perfect katsu on top. I'm only half joking saying that I have a separate stomach just for this, and I'm pretty sure it has healing properties too. Other faves we get include the karaage (in spicy sauce, it's sooo good!), croquettes, shumai, and the various donburi. They also make onigiri to go, and they're very good! I'm always shocked when I come in and see the other restaurants full and seats open at Tampopo because I've eaten at them all and Tampopo is the obvious winner to me. They're the most delicious, and they've even kept their prices very low after all...

My mouth is watering just thinking about the last time I went to this place! One of my friends suggested we meet up here (a small tempura style Japanese restaurant), and we arrived with a group of 6 unsure if we'd be seated together. However, the woman there was very nice, and specially re-arranged all of the tables and chairs so we could all be together in such a tiny space!

I ordered the Pork Tampopo Don and shared the fried Octopus balls with a friend and they were both delicious and very filling too! Some of my friends tried the chicken teriyaki and curry that I maybe I'll try next time I go.

Aside from the driving nightmare that is Porter Square, there is a private lot for parking at Lesley University with very reasonable rates if you get your ticket validated for purchase of $10+. On the weekend I think it was $1.50 for 2 hours. We had to read the fine print and run back to the restaurant to get the lady to stamp all of our...

It was very busy because a comic book event was happening in the mall, but even though the wait was long we managed to get a seat and order food. To my surprise and delight there were several gluten free options and the waitstaff was attentive and helpful with my diatary needs. And I asked for a salad as my side, but since the salad dressing wasn't gluten free they put together a simple gluten free dressing using gf soy sauce for me. I ordered the steamed tofu and vegetables over rice. The sauce they used was pretty good, and the tofu was silken and smooth. The reason why I am not giving 5 stars is because even after being seated we waited a very long time before they took our order, and people seated after us got served before we even got to order. Also my boifriend was given the wrong meal (ordered a curry bowl and an extra egg and was given a fried tofu bowl instead, and they forgot...

We tried this mom and pop stall for the first time after hearing good things about their food. Service was good. We ordered the steamed shumai, agedashi tofu, pork katsu curry, chicken teriyaki, and tofu curry and were served fairly quickly. The food was well cooked in general, especially the katsu, however, the flavor of the curries were not to our liking. It tasted more oniony and lacked the umami of any curry flavor. The portions were small, especially the steamed shumai. There were only four tiny shumais in the order and a few slices of tofu in the veggie curry. We really wanted to like the food more because of the cute older couple that run this stall but the food was just fine and pricey.

Lacking in quality & portions but decent pork cutlets. Recently tried their jumbo pork cutlet with other side menus. Portion of the jumbo pork cutlet was similar to regular pork cutlets that you would get at other restaurants and I didn't like how its portion was not balanced with other sides. Also tried their fried cream puffs and chicken karaage, but they were both underwhelming. Chicken karaage definitely felt like it was made from frozen chicken and frankly, it was disgusting to see it covered in too much (soy/teriyaki) sauce with no crispiness at all. Pork cutlet was the only menu that I enjoyed, but overall a disappointing experience.
