I cannot recommend Tex Miller’s enough. I had recently heard of them on TV and we were road tripping for Spring Break so they were our dinner destination of choice. Only issue was we were 2.5 hours away and I wasn’t sure of their hours during the middle of the week on a Wednesday. I called around 1:00 and asked their hours, which happened to be 11-5 today. I explained where we weee driving from, and it would be really close to 5:00 but we’d try to get there before. Their response: “Oh don’t worry, we’ll stay open for you. Just call us when you get on the road.” I asked multiple times if they were sure, as I didn’t want to make them stay late. I even offered to order ahead and they said “don’t worry, you told us you are coming and you are worth the wait.” We got in the car and our ETA was 5:01 PM so I called back and they assured me they would stay open for us. The anticipation of driving 2.5 hours for burgers and chili dogs with the family was tough. Let me tell you, it was SOOOOO worth it. We pulled in at 5:00 on the dot, and sure enough, Cindy (who I spoke with on the phone) and Gwen (the owner) were waiting for our family of 4 as if we had been personally invited to family dinner. They took our order, made us fresh burgers and chili dogs, gave my children the experience of picking whatever drink they wanted from an old school slide top cooler and we watched and chatted as they made us dinner. It was phenomenal!!! Truly homemade start to finish. The freshest fixings. The chili with hot dogs (yes…chili first, hot dogs in it) was amazing and like nothing I’d had before. The burger (Double Double) was so good and fresh fresh meat on a toasted bun. My kiddos loved their bacon cheeseburger and cheeseburger and my wife enjoyed her all the way cheeseburger. So spot on! And we talked like we were family the entire time. They tanked us and we thanked them and took pictures together. Such an amazing restaurant and experience. We will be back!

Was hungry on the way home from Galveston and a burger sounded good. Dianne checked Yelp and was intrigued by a review for Tex Miller’s. Man, oh man! This tiny joint tucked a half block off HWY 36 has been in operation since 1938. Three friendly country gals work magic with fresh ground beef, bacon and a ‘30s era cast iron flat-top grill. Place your order, take a seat and enjoy the banter of locals as you enjoy the distinct aroma of the sizzling burgers. No secrets here. You see every step of the process as your masterpiece burger is griddled, draped in melting cheese and combined with fresh cut fixings. You’ll be seated on a bench with a comma-shaped desktop in front of you. There’s no deep-fryer, so your side will be a bag of chips… just right for your individual tabletop. You’ll have fished a soda from an old-school Coke cooler just as diners did in the ‘30s. You’ll unwrap your freshly smashed and cooked burger and chomp into what I believe will be one of the best burgers you’ve ever experienced. Don’t drive through Cameron at lunchtime without dropping in and trying Tex Miller’s. Thank me later.

Tex Miller opened in 1937 and, despite all appearances to the contrary, they're still open and serving up the best honest-to-goodness burgers I've ever had. No fries, only chips. Usually open 10-2, Mon. - Sat.

The "Recommended by David Wade" shingle (see photo) was from David Wade, a Dallas public television gourmand in the 70s. It was in the early 70s that I first visited Tex Miller as a young teen and the place made an indelible impression on me – I have never forgotten Tex-Millar's and have held every burger joint to the same standard, going on 50+ years, hence the back roads pilgrimage to see if the the place was still alive (they don't always answer the phone). I was not disappointed and my party five – ranging in age from 49 to 85 – agreed it was worth going out of our way for.

An 85-year-old family friend from Cameron who live to be 92, told me "Tex Miller's was the only place in town that we could go for hamburgers and cold drinks and hangout at the end of a date when I was a student at C. H. Yoe High School in Cameron. I never went inside very much because we usually stayed in our cars and got curb service. There were always several cars with two or four people in them angle parked along the curb on Friday and Saturday nights. These pictures bring back a lot of memories."

Mr. Miller retired in 1989, Ms. Sandy Terry bought the business and has faithfully continued the tradition all these years. I was happy to see that nothing had been "improved" upon, even the "new" flat top grill – which was installed in 1956 – is still in use. At the time of our visit, January 24, 2017, the price of a cheeseburger was...

I'm not a professional reviewer, but I know what I like, and I love the burgers I got! It's got charm. It's got style. It's got panache. It's got that je ne se quois that makes it a nifty local attraction for tourist and travelers passing through, and it's got the right price and the great eating that makes it a delight for locals. Yummy, tasty, a full-size meat and a bun for a price that's cheap by modern standards! This burger is three times as good as something from a fast food joint for the same price or less. Juicy, flavorful, it's a good thing I don't live closer or I'd be there all the time! My Bank account wouldn't mind but my waistline would! The building is easy to find and easy to get to with easy parking either on the street or in a lot next to the building. They were doing a brisk business when I came by a little before noon and it was well attended but not crowded, just cozy. The building is one room with drink coolers to the right as you enter and seats that remind me of those school chair desks along the left. Even at my size (over 6 feet and not underfed) I fit in one. I admired the pre-electronic cash register, but the woman that took my order did so on a tablet with a card reader attachment. They grill and prep area are to the right just beyond the drink coolers and you can see these busy, hard-working women in the Few minutes it takes them to fix your food.

Three cheeseburgers and a chili cheese dog for $24 and change. I'm pleased and that's satisfactory. Do yourself a favor and give Text...
