This is the best place in Canyon to get food. Hands down.

That's all that needs to be said. But, I will go on. I will tell you that the chicken and waffles, with the honey butter topping, is heavenly. It warms your soul, similar to the green chili pork stew that contains the essence of fall in ever bite. And that stew, it's great on burgers, on omelettes, on burritos and is an integral part of The Slopper, pictured here, with an over easy egg added to the top. Comfort food at its finest.

And it doesn't stop there, oh no! The fried pies are indescribable, but I will attempt: buttery, flakey, warm and puffy crust envelops warm fruity filling that is slightly tart. The ice cream melts into the crust and complements the filling and I'm salivating just thinking about it.

The menu at this place is unique as it's seating arrangement, which is disorienting at first: if you enter through the door closest to the parking lot and patio, you'll be the dining room. However, the counter and drinks are located down a narrow hall through part of the kitchen. It feels weird but march on with your head held high and confidence in your hair, for your appointment with the best greasy, tasty, filling food awaits.

Another reason we like this place is the outdoor patio. It's relatively sheltered from the Texas panhandle wind, and it has an oversized sandbox which is always a hit with the kids. Really, my son likes the sandbox more than the food, and that's saying something, 'cause he always finished...

Beware & check your call in orders. After numerous inquires about why our normal order was more than usual, including calling the shift lead over to drive thru and getting nowhere with her. They had no interest in getting to the bottom of it. I get home and realize I was given two 4 piece steak finger + fries instead of the two 4 piece chicken fingers + fries I ordered. I told the two ladies numerous times I ordered chicken (which is the cause for the higher price. I call on way back to drive thru. The team lead claims I said I ordered steak and that flat isn’t true. It was a mistake with the person who took the order. All I wanted was two 4 piece chicken or my money back, which she refused to do stating it’s a large comp and the owners wouldn’t allow it since she’s had to many comps today. So now she’s crying and stating she will just pay for it out of her own pocket so she doesn’t get in trouble. After 50 min we finally got our two chicken fingers. If these employees really have to pay out of pocket when a mistake is made these employees should find employment elsewhere. And as we are leaving the lead promises she will refund my $2 extra I was charged for the steak and of course it hasn’t been...

The cashier was superb. Very nice and explained the whole "watch for your # and pick up at that window" thing.

The dining area was clean. We went on a weekday afternoon and no one else was there so I cant speak for how the atmosphere gets.

My son got a cheeseburger and fries which he said were both good. I got the mushroom queso burger and onion rings. The burger itself was just ok. The queso on the other hand was bland and I'm putting that lightly. It needs to be taken off the menu, its that bad. They give it to you on the side which is good. I'm guessing because they know you probably won't like it so this way they won't have to make you a whole new burger if they initially serve it to you slathered in the stuff.

The onion rings were also just ok. Not nearly enough batter was used but they did give me a super large portion, which I couldn't finish.

Also had the fried pickles, and again, the portion was super large so it definitely justifies the cost but I swear, there was probably more salt on those fried pickles than pickles. I ended up taking them and the remaining onion rings home but not gonna lie, they'll probably just end up...

It was odd setup. We walked in and thought we had entered the kitchen, but we were right where you ordered. We looked at a laminated menu and ordered. Then we walked though a hall, past the restrooms, and to the dining area. The first table did not look clean, so we chose another. I noticed some exposed wiring, I am no inspector, but I don't think that is code. The place is not real dirty, but could be cleaner. I noticed a sign about cleaning up your table when your done. The bacon burger was actually very good, but the onion rings were greasy and not much flavor. So summary order in the kitchen, walk to the back, seat yourself, pay $12 for a burger, and clean up after yourself.

I ordered two burritos and two cherry limeades at 10 am thinking they will be ready by the time I get there. I get there at 10:30 and they give me one tiny burrito. I let her know I’m missing the rest of my order and she gives me two cherry limeades that’s it. She then proceeds to tell me that they are really busy right now and that it’ll be 20-30 minutes for one burrito! Paid $16 for half a burrito and two drinks is insane! This is what we are stuck with now our favorite place has closed. Canyon is just going down hill again that we will have to go back to driving to Amarillo for decent food.
