Don Carlos Authentic Mexican Restaurant And Taqueria — Restaurant in Cape Girardeau

Don Carlos is a great Mexican restaurant, arguably one of the best in Cape Girardeau. They have had my business for 5 years and they have done a good job all through out.

I typically order tacos with corn tortillas and all toppings and also mixed fajitas. They are absolutely delicious. They’re well cooked, hot when served, and come with a lot of add ons like extra limes, tortillas, jalapeños, etc. The time it takes to get my order is a little bit on the long side, however, but I assume it must be because of the well preparations and cooking they take for it.

The servers are very nice, they make a good effort to make sure everything is up to par and that you’re satisfied with everything. A couple are a little bit too zealous and will repeatedly ask you if everything is fine, so you’ll have to put up with saying “yes” repeatedly even after already saying so.

The environment is genuinely Hispanic, with Spanish music usually playing and soccer running on the TV. Very comfortable.

Bathrooms are decent, not stunning. They are at least clean.

Great place to sit down and have lunch with your friends or family, just expect to hang around an hour or so if...

Driving through town and stopped here. One two punch for good food and good value! It’s a Tex/Mex restaurant with some authentic items. Mexican tacos are very different from American tacos. These are on small double corn tortillas, choice of meat and topped with onion & cilantro.

I’ve had my share of authentic Mexican tacos all over Mexico and California.

I had the street tacos and the shrimp cocktail. 8/10 on authentic 8/10 on flavor 10/10 on value The shrimp cocktail was huge! And even better for the price!

They had other Tex/Amex items like fajitas, burritos, nachos etc.

The meat platter did seem to be seasoned decent and was tasty however, the ribs ribs were small and dry,the shrimp had one that was not cleaned properly so I did not finish the rest ,my wife however liked her chili Colorado however ,she does tend to drown out any flavor that may or may not have been there with flaming hot sauce so that kinda negates eating off her plate.Would I go back only if invited , I would choose one of the other many,many Mexican restaurants in the...
