IHOP — Restaurant in Cape Girardeau

The parking lot was crowded and the anticipation there would be no seating started this adventure off to an outing full of dread. As we entered the building we, my Sister and I, could see it was very crowded as the parking lot had suggested. We both began looking around and noticed that there were several tables open along the north wall. We could see the waitresses quickly moving about the tables. After what seemed a long wait, 7 minutes to be exact, we were greeted and shuffled of to a table along, yes, the north wall. There was no one in the immediate booth's in front are in back of us, we felt comfortable enough to remove it mask right away. The drink order taken immediately and off went out waitress, she returned quickly in a flash with both of our cups of coffee, sugar, and creamer. No, sorry, we had not had time enough to look the menus over. We didn't wait long once our minds were made up, order taken and we began to chat, approximately 13 minutes had gone by when it for arrived, talk about being in high gear. Our choice cups filled again and we were off to the races, I had decided instead of over doing it I would take half my order home so as the waitress start to leave I asked for a to go box, she was more than happy to help me out. To this point I had nothing to complain about even if I had been so inclined. The young lady brought the to go box and Durning her absence my sister to as well take part of her meal home with her so we asked for a second to go box when she brought the first one. She did not return empty handed, bringing the coffee pot along with the to go box was a bright thought and gas be it we were both ready after washing down the wonderful pancakes we had ordered. I needed to use the rest room after all the in take off coffee, so I excused myself and headed that way. The reason and only reason I gave a four start rating was as I entered the bathroom a horrendous smell of sewer washed across me, I was too the verge of picking it was so bad. I quickly don't my business and got it of there as fast as I could go. As I returned to the booth my sister was taking care of the bull, she then excused her self to use the restroom. I warned her off the smell and she heatedly laughed, saying it could not be that bad .. When she returned to the booth the look on her face was priceless and she agreed there was a major problem, that it was much worse than she could have believed before going. We also agreed there had to be something that could have been done to make this problem go away. My last 2 visits at the Cape MO restaurant has been less than desirable. Visit before last, couldn't get a server to the table. Last visit server was the most unhappy person ever and She didn't know the menu. When we ordered the biscuit and gravy meal, biscuit and gravy was all we got, as a side not the meal. We ordered the appetizer sampler (typically comes with chicken strips, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings) she had to ask if we wanted to "substitute the French fries to be able to get the mozzarella sticks". She then brought drinks and then the meals and before we had a chance to eat or drink, she brought another full glass of beverages (that sat and got watered down while we were drinking the first round). When asked about the biscuit and gravy meal, her reply was well you ordered biscuits and gravy. I said yes, the meal comes with 2 eggs and sausage. Her reply was it comes with biscuits and gravy. I said yeah, I know ..nevermind but perhaps you should read the menu next to the picture that has the meals description. Still she said "yeah, biscuits and gravy". Ordered the big brunch burger. First time trying this burger. While reading the ingredients It said with IHOP sauce. This burger came with no sauce. The hash brown on the burger was literally as hard as a rock. The egg was fried to a black crisp with a small sliver of cheese. I didn't want to complain because our server seemed very nice. I did however ask her what the IHOP sauce was, then showed her my burger. It was void of any sauce. She said she would ask the cook but didn't know. He replied that they were out of any sauce and told her to offer catsup. I then left it alone because our server seemed to be having trouble with another server and didn't want to make her day any worse. You could feel the tension. There were only 6 people, dining in the restaurant and it was 2.5 hours before closing. This burger was terrible and inedible. I was looking for a replacement to the Dennys burger I get on occasion with the same ingredients. Kids pancakes were decent but the sharp cheddar Mac n cheese was runny and flavorless.
