We went here for a birthday dinner and it was very disappointing. The front staff who greet you were very off putting and rude. The chef who made the hibachi was great and nice and very entertaining. The food however was not great. The lobster tasted horrible and was very tough. The steak was okay but under seasoned. The portion sizes were extremely small for paying $38 a plate. You would expect to get more than 5 bites per portion of protein. We had the fried calamari and the breading was great but it was super tough to chew through. The chicken was also very dry and tough to chew through. The veggies were great and so was the rice but that was the only good thing. I ordered 2 orders of sashimi of octopus and squid. The octopus tasted freezer burnt and was horrible. The squid was very good and tasted buttery and fresh. Within 10 minutes of eating they start bringing out take out boxes to try and get you out of there quicker. The waitress also tried to add an additional tip on without asking. We paid $300 and honestly I was disappointed with how the food tasted and the service. On top of that they add an automatic mandatory 18% tip for tables larger than 6 people. I would not...
Read moreFirst of all, I like Watmai. They have authentic food and I like the atmosphere. (I am a real sushi fan, and have had some great sushi in Branson - Wakyoto), so I am not automatically prejudiced vs. mid-west sushi (is that an oxymoron?) The taste, freshness, presentation and amount here were all 4 - 5 STAR, but...every piece was chewy. There are a lot of things that can make the tuna chewy, but this was cut Saku fashion (small rectangular strips). Typically (not always, but usually) this is done with lower-quality fish, and not that it was taken from belly sinew (another cause of chewy sushi). It's also possible it was frozen, but I think rather it was just not Ryo Hinshitsu (good quality). Previous to this, I had had one other sushi plate from Watami, and it was all very good. The service was nothing terrible, but the waitress was not very attentive, and like a previous post, I did notice a lot of un-bussed debris left out for some time. I have also heard the hibachi is not good here, and would go to Shogun for that. If they would consistently put their best foot forward here, there would...

Second time I've been here this is now one of my favorite places whenever I visit Cape Girardeau the food is outstanding and I would recommend it to anybody who likes sushi and is visiting cape
I was quite surprised for the quality of sushi in Cape Girardeau Missouri. Having eating sushi all over the United States this was impressive. However the customer service is something that can be discussed the first time I ate there I stayed at the sushi bar with dirty plate all around me, the waitress as well as the rest of the wait staff walking by and no one stopping to pick them up. That's absolutely disgusting. I even had to get up and track down my server to pay for the check she was way too busy playing on her phone instead of being intensive and taking care of the guest in the dining room shame on you. The second time I ate there, I went straight to the hostess stand and order to go I was greeted immediately as well as my order taken immediately the customer service on this experience was absolutely perfect thank...
