Edited because of the owners awful and unprofessional response Changed it to 1 star.
-EDIT- I’m sorry what?! Not sure why you mentioned the army. That’s weird. You forced us to take the replacement. We told you we were fine, we just didn’t want to pay for the nasty food. You said your wife normally makes it and she wasn’t there and it was a new cook and said he messed up and kept apologizing for the bad food. You also over charged us for the 2 meals we did pay for. Did not realize you were the place in the mall that got people sick. Don’t worry. We won’t be back. I change my mind on wanting a local business to succeed. Your attitude is horrible. You can see past reviews and it shows I hardly ever complain. You should be embarrassed and I hope everyone sees your immature response. Karma is a B! I would also like to add that we did not raise hell, make a scene, was very polite to the waiter and owner. I’m seriously appalled by this response by the owner.
-Original review-
I gave 3 stars only because my food was ok and our friend’s chicken was good. The owner did come out and comped the bad meal and made a new one to take home.
Oh boy. Where do we start. Took 20 minutes to get greeted once we sat down. Got 1/2 appetizers. Took another 10 minutes to get the second one. They were ok. The cheese was nothing special. Pastitsio was a glob of cheese and maybe 6 noodles. Not even close to what it’s supposed to look like and taste like creamy flour. The Gyro was ok. Wasn’t bad but wasn’t great. Wrapped in paper that was falling apart and got a few fork fulls of soggy paper. Olives aren’t pitted and had no warning. Our waiter Matthew was a sweet kid but he needs better training and was not a good server. Took over an hour of being here to get our dinner. Wasn’t very attentive. I’m so disappointed. I wanted this local business to do well because it’s important for the community but I don’t see this place lasting long if it continues to stay like this. We spent $84 for 2 appetizers, 2 meals and a...
Read moreI've traveled internationally and am well aware of what constitutes authentic Greek food and atmosphere. This little cafe (in the best sense of the word) is authentic Greek. The moment you walk in the decor immediately brings to mind an outdoor cafe in the Greek countryside. The chef and staff kindly greeted me and my wife. The chef even speaks French to my delight and we shared some conversation all in a very easy going way. My wife knows nothing of Greek food and time was taken to describe the different meals, meats, and sauces. My wife made her order but afterwards talking further with the chef about what is a Greek salad she showed interest in that dish and surprise the chef brought her out a bowl. That was the service, the meal was amazing. Greek food is usually put through some americanization, but this was the real deal and in my opinion so much better. I could see the gyro meat spinning on the spit in the kitchen looking and cooking exactly as it should. The Greek salad was perfect, the right ingredients of cucumbers, tomatos, onions, and such with not too much oil and perfect chunks (not just crumbs) of Feta. I tried essentially a meat sampler and though it was lamb each was cooked and seasoned different and was a different taste experience. Most of the time you order a steak anywhere it tastes the same. Here whether chicken, beef or lamb each type was unique and flavorful. Well worth the sampling. For fun, ordered the flaming cheese and it was definitely FUN and oh so delicious. Finally the dessert was amazing. Don't come in a rush. They take their time as they should. Savour the atmosphere and the food. I can't say enough good about this truly authentic Greek experience from the ambiance, to the food, to the great and famous Greek hospitality from...
Read moreI love local owned and operated restaurants and understand the impact on a negative review. With that said, I did not have a great experience but that is okay. I am not going to give three stars because based off everyone’s reviews it may have been a bad, but I can’t give five.
I sat on this review for 3 days, wondering my approach or how to articulate my review.
Prime location on the strip in Carmel. Parked right behind the building.
Family owned and operated - all staff extremely friendly. A cook, which I am assuming is the owner was talking to the table in front of me, reminded me of my father, extremely happy and friendly.
We did wait a little while after we were seated I believe the hostess didn’t inform the waiter, very nice young man.
Saganaki and pita was excellent
Greek Burger - it’s was okay. Maybe add onions, tomato, and cucumber on the side? Waiter sorta warned us, and explained it before we got it. So no knock on it.
Fries - fine; not coming here to rate a Greek restaurants fries. This is my thing Gyro and Fries.
Gyro Meat - this is why I am torn. I know the old owner of Yummy Grill on post, Banura’s on Michigan Road/Illinois Street, Adels off college, owners they all explained, you have 3 levels of gyro meat from distributors in Indy and homemade. To me, it was cut to thin, there was giant chunk of fat, and didn’t have that traditional gyro meat I enjoy. It’s lacked that flavor… Maybe I ordered the wrong type of gyro meat but I’m use to the beef/lamb blends.
Now In their defense I was asked 5+ times if I enjoyed or liked the meal, I said yes.
I will try again and...
