We decided to pop in for dinner. I did not expect much, since this place was going down hill prior to COVID.
So the only thing that changed was the decor, mostly Second hand of materials were used to cover the old tables, but it was nice open and bright feel.
The servers appear to be the same ones, but I could be wrong, or there were a mix of new and old servers.
When it comes to the buffet I do have a few items I like to pick... I always get the sautéed string beans with some sushi (but apparently other guests needed a whole plate of sushi) and I do not like day old sushi. Sometimes I would get items from the hibachi to be prepared, but not this time. I did try the green beans, spinach, fried shrimp, pork rib, and some barbecued duck. The duck was dry and fatty, a no for me. The grean beans were a little under seasoned and not like the original recipe. I was not too disappointed with the veggies, accept for the meat items. Some were already cold upon picking up or were either day old servings. I could tell from the one fried chicken drumette I picked up. The skin wad not as crispy or tasted fresh. The egg roll was not fresh either. There was no crunch nor did I find any duck sauce for it. Again it tasted like these were cooked days in advance and reheated.
At this point, I was not impressed. I was even disappointed prior to eating when we went to order our drinks. I do not drink soda and always ordered the iced tea, but unfortunately they only carried soda products, so water it was.
I am happy they no carry the ice cream tubs that you had tk scoop yourself and were never clearly marked with names. My son almost had an allergic reaction because one ice cream had nuts in it. So now you get to pick like ice cream bars or ice cream sandwiches to name a few. The cakes were not looking their best since the public is picking their own slices. Which hacked up the cakes and pies.
I am not sure who owns it, but it was the first time seeing a non Asian Pacific person run the cash registe. He was nice checking us out. But overall for the food, I do not think we...
Read moreMy wife and I have been to Charm City Buffet twice. We first went there on 07-13-2025, and we went back a week later on 07-19-2025. On both of our visits, the food was fairly fresh, cooked well, and flavorful. However, on both of our visits, our waitress brought the bill to our table after about 20 minutes. This isn’t an issue, but on our second visit when she brought the bill to us after 20 minutes, she asked us if we were finished eating and also asked if we were paying with cash or card. I told her that we were paying with card and that we WERE NOT done eating our meal. She walked away only to come back 10 or so minutes later and placed the bill on our table. We felt like we were rushed out of this place having only been at our table for 30 minutes. Our total bill was $40.26. I paid the bill with my card, and drew a line through the “tip” line on the receipt and left a $5 cash tip, which I felt was more than fair considering the only interaction we had with her was when she took our plates off of the table, brought us 2 glasses of water, and brought us our bill.
Moving forward to the next day, I received an alert from my banking institution that a $10 tip was added to our bill, now bringing the grand total from $40.26, to $50.26. Wait…….i drew a line through the tip line on our receipt, and left a $5 cash tip. Once I received the alert from my bank, I attempted to call Charm City Buffet in hopes to resolve the issue without getting my bank involved, but both numbers listed were out of order.
I am choosing NOT to file a dispute through my bank, however, I will be making it my mission to raise awareness about the “illegal” business practices of Charm City Buffet, and it starts right here with this review.
I have attached a copy of our receipt that i thankfully took a photo of before we handed it to our waitress.
Stay FAR FAR away from this place. The good food does not make up for their...
