I really would love to give this location a better rating but have been to this location several times and been disappointed each time. Our Go to spot was the Kabuto in Essex but it is a further drive and was super excited to try this location as it was alot closer. I love hibachi food but often do not need the "dinner and show" portion so we often just choose to go to the sit in side near the bar. You can order the same food it just comes from the kitchen instead. The food itself I will give a 4/5, no real complaints on that end except some of the alcoholic drinks were watered down and they have been out of the Sapparro beer twice when we went. Not a huge deal as there were other selections available. Now onto the service, the staff was friendly but we waited literal hours here waiting on our food. The last two times we got only a portion of our hibachi and had to wait for our fried rice which didn't come until after we were done eating. Which is beyond frustrating as it's one of the best parts of hibachi! We had to ask them just to bring it out in a to-go container. Our waitress was apologetic but also keep telling us how "4 people called out" "only chefs on the hibachi side" I am super understanding in these situations but just close the dine in only portion if you cannot accommodate. We had also ordered a shrimp/steak combo and they only brought out steak and we waited around 40 minute for them to bring the shrimp out. Just in general even if the food is amazing the poor service leaves a poor taste in your mouth. When you are spending around $100 for two people you definitely want a better experience.
We will probably try a pickup to-go order or go to the other Essex location...
Read moreLet me just start out by saying this place has only been opened maybe 2 weeks. We went there opening week and it was great. Our chef really made the meal, he was so personable and made it a great experience. The food was good, not great. But, our chef was so great that we still raved on it. Fast forward to tonight and we went back. We got there around 7:40, figuring it'd be enough time before they closed(at 9). They had some open tables but told us it'd be a 20 minute wait. We were happy to wait. I guess they were just waiting for someone else to come so it's not just us at the table, no big deal. About 10 minutes later a couple walks in, so they seat us. Another 10 minutes go by, we've all place our orders and then maybe 5 minutes later they put down 3 more plates. Mind you at this point it's 8:05 and there are 3 tables wide open. 2 of the people were together, one wasn't even ready to be seated. Salad and soup comes, soup is just broth. No noodle, no mushrooms, nothing(there was stuff in it the first time we went). It gets to 8:25 and they still haven't finished ordering because of the third person coming. I asked if we could be moved, as it wasn't really fair that we had been there 45 minutes and had to wait on these people to order for the chef to come out. They told us it would be even longer for the chef to come if we did that. We ended up leaving before they even finished ordering. They said they'll keep taking people as long as the chef hasn't come out. If we're paying at least $25 a person to eat, I don't expect to wait an hour just for the chef to come out. We won't be back for atleast a long...
Read moreI had the worst experience dining at Kabuto in Parkville on Saturday night 3/12 in the bar area. My adult party of 5 came ready to enjoy an evening of catching up with sushi, drinks and dinner only to be totally disappointed by the serving staff (excluding the bartender, Brea who was absolutely fabulous trying to mitigate the poor behavior of her partnering server and “acting” manager). We were asked if we could pay our bill while we still had full beverages ($9/glass to be exact and I planned to order more sushi) because they wanted to seat another party, meanwhile I had to order drinks from the bar because our server never came back to check on us. I couldn’t believe it. We’re 5 adults (40+ years old, spending close to $300) being asked to close out or moved to the bar because they wanted to seat other people. Are you serious? If that’s not discrimination, I don’t know what is. Without causing any issues (although it took everything in me not to) we moved to the bar and tried to keep a calm attitude although furious at what transpired. In hindsight, we should have paid and went elsewhere. The bartender Brea was so kind, it’s not fair to make one person pay for the incompetence she’s surrounded by. We finished. I more than double-tipped Brea (although I know they split tips),but I knew it would be the last time I saw her there and wanted to show I valued what she tried to do. I will never step foot in Kabuto. I’m not sure where it sounds “ok” to move a party just because you feel like it but I can assure you I will not patronize an establishment...
