I really enjoyed having dinner here. I have arrived around 7pm and it was quite peaceful with so few customers. For supper I ordered Monkey Brains & the Rainbow Roll and the restaurant even gave me a bowl of miso soup which was on the house. It was all very tasty but I do recommend buying a bowl of miso as I did on top of the 1st bowl they gave for free. The miso soup they make is phenomenal! Its made with a bit of dashi and it's perfectly seasoned. I also ordered several containers of hot sake which is umm maybe 6 or 7 shots per container if you order large. For the hot sake i ordered 1 container of Fuji apple and 2 containers of purple sake. The purple sake hits harder than the Fuji apple but the apple has got a wonder flavor to it which I bet the ladies would enjoy. So if your significant other wants a bit of alcohol I would recommend the Fuji Apple which is normally served cold but you can request it be served as hot which in my opinion is perfect hot as it goes down easy. The Monkey Brain is quite large for an appetizer but I did absolutely enjoyed it and the Rainbow Roll is excellent also. The Rainbow Roll is the only sushi I've seen on the menu that offers a variety of fish on a sushi roll. It consists of White Tail, Tuna, Salmon and shrimp with crab meat on the inside. Very tasty. I would recommend Hon Sushi if you so happen to be in the area....
Read moreAbout a year and a half ago I had visited this sushi restaurant with my senior citizen parents. It was not the best experience, BUT when the place changed owners, name, and even renovated the entire inside I have to say the place is completely different all the way around. I just took my parents there today and we were all VERY IMPRESSED with the great service, the freshness of the food, more than reasonable prices, and the ambiance of the dining room was very clean and comfortable. Today I tried the Sashimi Sampler (around $11) and I was shocked when they brought the plate out. It had an actual chunk of ice on the plate with the Sashimi so neatly displayed on the top of it. It was the most impressive display of a sampler dish I've seen so far. Be sure to check out the picture of that plate that I posted since words just do not do it justice. The fish was very fresh. I also ordered some beef & vegetable dumplings which I have never had and it was delicious! The miso soup and salad are very tasty as well. I've been to at least 100 sushi places over the past 5 years and this one is by far the best!!! The food is so delicately prepared that I had to meet the chef. Charlie is the name of the sushi master chef and he is truly gifted at the art of making...
Read moreA hidden gem
Hidden between a check cashing store and a Game Stop, you wouldn't expect this lovely Japanese cuisine in a strip mall.
Brave the weird parking and unimpressive facade. Go to Hon Sushi.
And it's so much more than sushi! There's a full menu of Japanese cuisine, from ramen to bento to tonkatsu (a personal favorite). The chef came out to chat with us some. He mentioned that they make their soy sauce in house (you can do that!??) and I said the miso soup was probably the best I've had (because it was). He admitted to a multi hour traditional recipe, but wouldn't share it.
And more than just good taste, we got a very pleasant surprise. The sushi we did get was beautiful, in form and presentation. It's taken for granted in Japan but so rarely seen in America. There were ornamental flourishes such as a cucumber crown on our sushi tower to a carrot triskelle on my California roll. (A California roll? Who hand garnishes a California roll?? This place, that's who.)
For being so hungry coming in, we wound up with a lot of leftovers for an extremely reasonable price. I am definitely looking forward to going back to try out...
