I am a Carson City resident and have been going to Red's on a regular basis since they opened 20 odd years ago. It was always one of our favorite spots for taking guests. We also enjoyed their happy hour and considered it one of the best in Carson City. In the last few months, however the quality of service, food, and cleanliness have suffered. I thought I would write an email to Red's from their website to convey my observations but Red's website will not allow me to contact the business. It appears the website payment may not have been made appropriately. Another sign of change of some kind going on in ownership/management? Tonight my wife and I ordered salads and pizza and received wilted brown lettuce in the salad. The pizza dough was not fully cooked. I waited an inordinate amount of time for my beer after the initial order and my wife got up and went to the bar to get beer because our server failed to acknowledge us. The men's restroom was appropriately cleaned but my wife commented on the filthy nature of the women's restroom and noted it has been in that condition the last two times she's been there. I have taken photographs to document the food quality and lack of cleanliness. We really enjoy the atmosphere but the place hasn't been dusted/cleaned appropriately and the fans might as well be considered a motorized dust collection system as they are caked with dust. Again, I would have made my observations known directly to the restaurant management/owners and spared the public review if I could but decided to post a review on Google since direct contact has been made unavailable. I will give them another chance but I'm starting to lose hope in their ability to make Red's what it used to be and...
Read moreDisappointed with my meal at red's old 395 grill. I ordered the jiffy burger. I love peanut butter on my hamburgers. But this one failed to make the grade. The bun was stale. Even though it was toasted, you could still taste that stale quality. The bun was so dry that it fell apart while I was eating. It didn't smash down like a brioche bun normally does it actually broke apart because it was so dry. Additionally, my hamburger patty was way overcooked. I ordered it medium and it came to me over well. It was extremely dry. Did not add any juiciness to the burger. Since my burger bun fell apart while I was eating it, I had to use a knife and fork to finish it the hamburger. Patty was pretty tough.
All the other components were delicious. The bacon well-cooked and tasty. The cheese, nice and creamy. The peanut butter and barbecue sauce absolutely delicious and the fried onions were fantastic. The lettuce and tomato nice and fresh. Everything went together well except for those two big pieces that just did not do it for me.
I ordered my burger with the side of coleslaw. The coleslaw was good. It came in a little red corn bowl. Kind of like a taco salad but about 4 in in diameter. Interesting presentation. I liked it. Tasted good too. I liked how the coleslaw dressing soaked into the taco shell and kind of softened it a bit. Gave it a good flavor too.
The restaurant vibe is really nice. I love the decorations and the log cab and feel to it. It's a really cool place to hang out. They have a nice indoor area and also a nice...
Read moreThe place was nicely decorated and seating was comfortable. They had the look of a high end restaurant in their menu selection and the presentation of the food.
However, their description of the Salmon Rose was confusing as it stated it was salmon in an orange sauce topped with quinoa and crushed peanut.
I asked the hostess and the waiter about it because the description didn't say it was a full serving of quinoa and crushed peanut which was why I ordered a side of scalloped potatoes and a side salad. I would have asked to substitute something else for the quinoa had I known.
The quinoa was also very oily and the ratio of peanut to quinoa was off. Too heavy with the peanuts. The salmon was not wild salmon, but farm raised. However, it was prepared correctly and the orange sauce was tasty.
My husband had the filet mignon which was cooked to perfection, however, the added topping of their sauce was off-putting in its sour flavor, and detracting, instead of enhancing the natural flavor of the meat. The roasted vegetables were good and the pureed carrots were surprisingly tasty.
We ordered a creme brulee for dessert which sadly for us was not up to par. I have had better in less pricey establishments. Its texture was heavy in consistency and the caramelized sugar topping was too thick and hard, almost like a candied Karo syrup brittle. I prefer a lighter and thinner amount that adds a touch of sweetness to a creamy yet lighter custard
Overall, we were disappointed in what we received at that...
