This is my sister's one of the favourite indian restaurants and we visited a couple of weeks ago. We were welcomed by Regan, and he was very welcoming and helpful. However, we had bad and very disappointing moments at the start.
We were a large group of 8 including children, and as we had kids, we wanted the table somewhere around the corner, as not to disturb other tables and away from the door. At first one of the waiter told us if we could wait 5 minutes as people had finished eating , to which we said ok, as we were not in a rush. However, after 5 minutes, the waiter told us that they weren't sure when the table would be available and if we would be ok to sit on a different table. The tables would be near the door, and we were hesitant to sit there, but as we didn't know how long the wait would be, we agreed to be seated there.
We sat on the table near the door and received our poppadoms, but after 10 minutes, as people kept coming in and out, we were feeling quite cold. We asked one of the waiter if the table was available in the back, and if we could move as we kept feeling cold air. Then the waiter goes, " Oh,now you want to move? When we asked you before, you said you were fine. Now we have to clean the table. " Rather than asking what the reason is or saying, I'll check or maybe just say no. The tone in which he said felt very condenscending and rude and made it sound like it was our fault.
As we didn't like the tone, we told him that it's fine and we could continue to sit on the same table, he then went away. He came back and said we could move to a different table, but we had to take the plates, poddoms, and cutlery from the table to another table by ourselves and didn't seem bothered to help us. But Regan came and told us that they would bring the poppadoms to the new table and that we won't have to take anything with us, and we were grateful for that. After that he served our table and was it very nice to have a conversation with him.
We have also worked in a service industry, and we know that sometimes the customer might want to move to a different table for various reasons. But instead of listening to a reason and checking if it is possible to do so. You don't just make it seem like it's bothersome and its customers' mistake for choosing sit there in the first place, though there was no other table available.
Nevertheless, the food was very delicious, loved the masala chai. The Bhature was soo big and yummy. Just that, if they improve the service, no doubt it will be a great place...
Read moreGood Tasting Food but nickel and diming you! We were 6 friends and decided to meet up at Anjappar for most of us it was our first time.
It was Saturday evening, We ate Dosa’s there and ordered many of us ordered more food to go. I live 40 min away from Anjappar.
Dosa’s were good and tasty, wife had Mysore masala Dosa, I had Andrea Kara Masala Dosa, this one has red chiles I like my food spicy and with a lot of heat. The accompanying Sambar was one of the Tastier Sambar at South Indian restraint we have had. It was on Point! Very tasty.
For To take out, I had the Chettinad Chicken, wife had Whole Pomfret Tavares Fry. I must say both of the items were full of wonderful flavor. After speaking to other friends, they agree, food was flavorful and delicious. I will order to take out again from Anjappar. (Also of note I ordered my chicken dish Very Spicy and it was not at all spicy)
Now for why I took one star off, and on Nickel and diming… on there menu they charged you for extra Sambar and they charged you $2 for cut onion with slice of lemon. I mean really, what South Indian restaurant charges for Sambar when you are having dosa. And charging for few wedges of cut onions and lemon? I mean for majority of Indian population, Indian food is not compleat if it is not accompanied by onion, green chilies and lemon wedges on the side. Also there quality of basmati rice was not up to par with there tasty dishes. I have not had sub-par basmati rice, it sort of ruined the taste of the dish. If you are making quality food then everything should be of quality.
The servers were nice, kind but they were all over the place, we asked for extra Sambar with our Dosa and it took forever to come I had to ask 3 times and I was 75% done with my Dosa. So the severs are nice, but not attentive. Also we places our to go order at 6:27pm and got it at 8:15pm. I understand it’s COVID and help is at needed every so no complaints on the lateness on our dine in order which took 45 min and to go order which took almost 2 hr. I just stated it so my other fellow customers can order well in advance and understand that Anjappar is trying and doing but at a slow pace at the moment.
You will enjoy their dishes, my next dish I will try is Anjappar chicken masala.
Update: finished the leftover Chettinad Chicken, enjoyed it very much. Very good tasting food even as a...
Read moreTL;DR - 8/10 almost killed my boyfriend
NOTE: Originally, I accidentally posted this review to the Anjappar Durham location’s business account. The ownership accused me (in all capital letters) of adding a false review to their account and demanded I take it down.
This time, I’m including a photo of my credit card statement as proof that we did dine at Anjappar Cary. I shouldn’t have to, but I am. I take reviews seriously, and I wouldn’t include this level of detail if I were making this up.
The Durham location’s management response has soured my perspective of Anjappar. While the food was good, the staff ultimately did not care that much about the dietary restrictions we communicated.
We never have any trouble eating at other Indian restaurants in the Triangle area, and because of the way the Durham location’s management handled the misplaced review, we’ll never be back to an Anjappar location.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: My boyfriend and I stopped in to Anjappar about a year ago (almost two now), and we were delighted by the space and the kindness of the staff. We eat vegetarian and were impressed with the range of veg entrees. We ended up choosing a dosa and a few of the vegetarian options. We're both incredibly allergic to tree nuts and peanuts, and we're always sure to let the staff at Indian restaurants know since nuts feature prominently in Indian dishes. The waitstaff understood and ensured us there would be no nuts.
First, the food was incredible, and I've made sure to tell fellow fans of Indian food about Anjappar.
Unfortunately, within a few minutes of beginning the meal, my boyfriend started reacting to something in the food. I quickly asked for boxes and paid for the meal, so we could get home in time for him to handle the consequences there. We didn't quite make it home, and he was in agony for several hours afterward, lying on the bathroom floor and unable to move. I thought I was going to have to take him to the emergency room.
Dietary allergies have serious consequences. Any reaction could be the reaction that kills someone, and for this reason, they should not be taken lightly.
There is no way to know which entree nor what ingredient set off my boyfriend's allergy, but I wanted to finally make this post so folks with nut allergies are aware that Anjappar might not be the best...
