Staff was fantastic, the concept is outstanding, the in store shopping is super convenient and super easy, but it still falls a little short for me in fundamentals.
Background: I've tried Freshly, and Blue Apron meal delivery a few years back and the food was fantastic and healthy, but it came down to one thing I couldn't justify and Cost/Portion ratio. The meals were great and I think i was at a $9 meal level, but i was active and in great shape physically and i needed to eat 2 dinners to get reasonably full.
Bottom line: I just couldn't justify $18 a dinner every night plain and simple especially if you are buying for others too.
Flash fwd 3 years and a casual friend recommended Clean Eatz and i was super excited... I went to the Cary NC location and bout nearly $100 dollars worth of entree's priced at $6.50 a pop and about 5 different types of meals.
I was super excited and knowing a bit about bulk food prep from experience i was careful to let my meals thaw for 48 hrs in the fridge so they would heat/taste better. Over the course of next week I and 2 other adults tried all the meals and tried heating both in the Oven and microwave. But honestly we were all disappointed.
There's no heating instructions on the individual meals themselves (Just broad instructions overall via the web-site.) I found some meals heated up fine with those instructions, many didn't at all and all of them had a huge amount of water by-product after heating making them very mushy and honestly they had little/no/poor taste. The cuts of meat were disappointing at the looks and the taste. I didn't have this problem with Freshly or Blue Apron (They were incredibly good tasting meals) but they also had more meticulous heating instructions for each particular meal and even the components within a single meal.
I had 2 other adults trying this out with me and honestly we felt all the same... incredibly small portions for dinner on some meals (300 to 400 calories ? For dinner? For a good adult male? I ate 2 meals frequently which was the same problem i had with Freshly/Blue Apron but these meals were hard to eat... they were just so bland, and mushy. A couple of the entrees were decent tasting, but still not nearly as good as the other companies i've tried with the same health values but to be fair those were a buck or two higher priced.
I think Clean Eatz is priced great but the value for that price in terms of taste and volume is still underwhelming and misses the mark for me.
Anyway I still say the company that can provide a decently healthy and filling meal for adults that tastes good at a $6 to $8 price tag is going to...
Read moreClean Eatz gives me a great solution to for quick, prepared, and (i assume?) healthy meals. . . Certainly healthier than the proficiency fast food options and high salt dine ins available elsewhere. Clean Eatz meals are single serving meals, well packaged for easy taking to work or bulk storage. They freeze and reheat surprisingly well. They have a lot of meal options and diet-specific categories (low cal, low carbon, paleo/carnivore, general). They also have a rewards program and a weekly bulk order special to defray costs for people like me who rely on Clean Eatz meals as a diet staple. The store is nice, clean, and staff are super helpful and friendly. They serve shakes, drinks, and meals in the store, but I've never ordered any of it. Clean Eatz saves time on meals selection, prep, cooking, and cleaning. They taste good and seem to be made with good stuff, skipping the additives and preservatives in other prepared and frozen prepared food options. Great products....
Read moreClean Eatz is a life saver. I really struggled with eating healthy lunches, often resorting to walking to the local fast food places, until I came across their great prepared lunch service. Now my wife and I go every Sunday and pick up ten meals for the week. We're eating healthy, tasty, appropriately portioned meals, and we're not running around shopping, cooking, and cleaning all the time to make sure that happens. It's a service well worth subscribing to.
You'll get to choose from 5 different lunches every week, plus one breakfast. This can be kind of a shame when you get one week with an amazingly delicious meal, like the shredded beef tortilla wrap this week, thay doesn't come around for several more weeks. But on the plus side, it won't be long until you find a new favorite on the menu. And hey, you can always buy a few extra beef wraps and freeze...
