Sunday night pizza, didn't want a " franchise" spot so we thought we would try the Wooded Island. Being local (Huron County) we heard good things about it, the old Cassville Lumber building turned restaurant. We got there we found out there was no pizza...which wasn't their fault as we were unsure of their menu. Very nice surroundings, they did a great job with the interior, warm and welcoming. The bar is fully stocked with many beers and craft beers on tap, many TVs with the game on... If you want a cold drinks, coming out to watch the game with friends, this is where to come! However, sitting area there were 3 total tables full while we were there, ordered 2 different kind of wings (which we were told about) Original Buffalo and Garlic Parmesan, ordered Mac&Cheese for our little one. Ordered a Copper Harbor and my lady a water with lemon, had to go up to the bar to get lemon as our waitress forgot the fruit. Recieved our wings on a very small portion, more of a snack size than a meal, showcased with 3 sticks of celery, lettuce leaf, and orange slice, and some parsley (figured the pretty made up for lack of flavor?).... not the celery and carrots stated on the menu. The Garlic & Parmesan wings had no garlic on them at all and looked like Kraft Parmesan sprinkled on top, a let down for a hungry Mama. When asking the waitress for a side of ranch, and where the carrots were, we were left looking for her to find her when the check was brought. Our plees were returned with "We weren't expecting this tonight, and he (cook) was slammed in the back, and we were short handed"..... Really!?!? For a town in the thumb known for All Show and No Go, this place takes the cake! If you can not handle 3 tables on a Sunday night in April, then how are you going to handle the rush of Summer??? Again, If you like to come and hang out and looking for something that has to be twisted off or poured then this is your place, other wise be ware.... **Edit - Tried again as we are motorcyclists and have had a few ride stops here for charity runs. Not sure what their idea is of Bikers is but I would say RIDERS STAY AWAY. For a ride stop the staff was not prepared, bartender acted as if we were hindering them away from the "short and sandle wearing" customers they had bellied up to the bar... Mind you that the riders there were pulling out $50s left and right for service, we not impressed and pretty sure they wouldn't get a 3rd try. If you ride into town on a golf cart with a cabana shirt, shorts, boat shoes you may find it different but not if you have 2 wheels and are...
Β Β Β Read moreThere isn't a place around that has more potential than Wooded Island. We ate here excited to try their fish tacos, and I sadly have to say, was disappointed. The tacos we got looked nothing like the ones online, so I'm hoping it was just an off day, but consistency is a big part of this business. The tacos looked good, until I started digging through several layers of so many peppers. There were at least two different types of diced peppers in here and with a very strong sour taste. Mixed in with them were minced tomatoes as well. (not what other pictures showed. Basically, this should be called the pepper tacos because there was hardly any fish to them. After taking out some of the fish, I realized it's some of the best fish around. I just don't understand why they would choose to overwhelm the taste of the pollock with so many other tastes. Just a lot going on and very little fish. Our whole group wasn't a fan. I took my second one home, scrapped off 80% of the peppers, made some rice for it, then added some spicy sauce and it was perfect. Missed opportunity here with such amazing fish.
All that being said, this is the best looking restaurant around, however looks aren't everything.
Thanks for the experience. I plan on giving it...
Β Β Β Read moreWent in for dinner with the family. Was seated at a table and given menus. 25 minutes later and no one had even taken our drink orders. This could be excused if they were crazy busy, but they were only moderately busy and i watched 3 or 4 of their waitstaff just hangung around doing nothing for at least half of the time we were there. Ended up deciding to just go somewhere else, as I had 3 hungry kids who really couldn't wait any longer. When we got up to leave the manger, I'm assuming manager since he seemed to be the one in charge, asked me what we were doing. Told him we had been waiting for 25 minutes and had no service so we were going somewhere else, and his only response was "yea, I don't blame you."... seriously? I may have stuck around if he offered any kind of apology or way to fix the situation but c'mon "I don't blame you"!? Will never even consider returning. Seriously unless you have A LOT of time to kill, don't...
