For the past three years, we have dined in at this restaurant regularly. Their sushi is the best in SA. Once COVID hit, we decided to continue eating at our favorite restaurant, however we noticed some very unsettling differences between dine in and carry out. The first time we ordered out, they did not have our sake included in our bag of takeout. When we called and brought it to their attention, they treated us as if we were the party in error, or as if we were attempting to get one over on them. They told us that they would have to discuss it with the manager and call back. They eventually called back and said they would credit the sake and offered nothing more than that....no sorry, no additional credit. Due to our enjoyment of their food quality, we elected to try a second time. On this occasion, we ordered extra ginger (which on EVERY dine in occasion has been complimentary of our dine in experience) and were told that it would be an additional dollar charge. We said that was fine because we expected “additional order of ginger” to be just that; not a few leafs of it. As seen in the picture that I’ve attached, this is what was received. It was a very tiny amount of ginger in a plastic to go sauce cup with lid. We spoke to the gentleman that had brought our food out and asked if we could get additional ginger, since the amount they brought us obviously shouldn’t be considered “additional.” This fellow said he would see if he could get this for us. He quickly returned and said that he would not be able to do so because additional “side items” are an up charge. We showed him this tiny portion and he didn’t care. A second gentleman came up to the car in the middle of the conversation with extra gingers in hand and we asked if we could have those as our “extra ginger” order. Both said that we could not unless we wanted to pay extra. This place has great sushi, but you will likely not find a stingier restaurant. As loyal and regular customers, we have witnessed the quality food and service. This new regime, however; is very far from that. Upcharging their customers for extra ginger, providing them with a minuscule amount, and not making it right when asked for a fair portion and being completely unopen to serving their customer? I can’t imagine many folks will look upon this occurrence and feel like this is a restaurant they care to spend their money at.

**Restaurant Review:** During our recent visit to the restaurant, we encountered a mix of positive and disappointing aspects that significantly influenced our experience. **Service:** The service provided by our waiter was commendable. They were knowledgeable about the menu and exhibited a friendly demeanor throughout our meal. However, we observed inconsistencies among other staff members regarding hygiene practices, which detracted from an otherwise positive impression. **Hygiene Concerns:** Regrettably, not all waitstaff adhered to proper hygiene standards. Witnessing a staff member exit a restroom stall and return to the floor without washing their hands was particularly concerning. Such lapses in hygiene are unacceptable and contributed negatively to our dining experience. **Food Quality:** The quality of the food varied considerably. While the super white tuna was enjoyable, some dishes fell short of expectations. For instance, the $40 MP Uni was disappointingly small and lacked freshness. Its texture was undesirable—slimy and overly fishy, rather than the expected rich, buttery flavor indicative of fresh uni. This was particularly disappointing as it was intended to be a highlight of the meal, but instead left a lasting negative impression. **Portion Sizes and Pricing:** Portion sizes were generally smaller than anticipated, especially considering the pricing. For example, the $72 chef's plate provided a decent amount, but other items such as the $40 Uni were disproportionately small for the cost. The value proposition for certain menu items did not align with the prices charged. **Atmosphere:** The restaurant maintained a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, conducive to social gatherings and celebrations like birthdays. However, the overall experience was marred by the inconsistencies in food quality and service. **Conclusion:** In summary, while the restaurant offers a pleasant atmosphere and some notable dishes like the super white tuna, the experience was overshadowed by significant shortcomings. Issues such as hygiene lapses among staff, inconsistent food quality, and pricing disparities detracted from what could have been an enjoyable dining occasion. For those considering a visit, I would advise managing expectations, particularly regarding specialty items like the MP Uni.

The restaurant was nice inside and the employees were friendly. I was looking for restaurants online and found this place and viewed the menus on my phone. I saw they had pork katsu don for 15 bucks, which is one of my favorite Japanese dishes and I've had it many times in many restaurants. So I decided to go to sushi Hana for lunch. I went in and was greeted by the hostess I asked her if I could have a booth and she said they were not available that they just had tables. I asked for a booth because of my back problems. Sitting in a regular chair hurts my back after a while. I was starving since I hadn't eaten all day so I told her just give me what you have then I just need to eat something. Lol she asked a young man to seat me, the young man seemed confused. I guess the table he was going to put me at wasn't clean yet so I asked if I could sit in one of those half booth tables over there that were open because I actually wanted a booth anyway. I don't know if he didn't hear me or if he ignored me or he didn't want to give me that table because I was only one person. So he took me to a two-seater regular table with chairs. On the table where a bunch of papers which turned out to be the menu. I know during covid a lot of places used paper menus but come on already. The pandemic is over people use laminated menus which you can sanitize instead of cheap pieces of paper that you reuse and don't sanitize. The cheaply printed menu was hard to read so I just used the one that was on my phone and asked the waiter if they had the item I wanted. They had the pork katsu don and the price in the restaurant was $17 but on the online menu it was $15 which is no real big deal but I don't understand why they can't make things match. My food was ok, but it did not taste like it normally would. I guess cuz this place is such a contemporary Asian fusion kind of place the flavors are not the same as authentic Japanese restaurants. It wasn't bad though it just wasn't what it should have been. The portion size was okay they gave a decent amount of rice and veggies not too much meat though. I also ordered veggie egg rolls which were different. They were tiny little egg rolls like something you get from the frozen section at the grocery store that come in a box. You get five of these tiny little egg rolls and some sweet sour sauce. I believe I paid $6 or $7 for it even though the online menu said $5. the sweet sour sauce was delicious but the inside of the egg roll was a little mushy. Overall It was an okay experience. If I go back there I guess I'll try the sushi maybe I'll enjoy myself more. During my whole lunch my view was of the empty half Booth which no one was seated in. Which annoyed me a little because when I got up to go my back was sore from sitting in that hard chair when I could have been sitting in a nice soft booth. Lol On second thought, I don't think I'll be going back. Lol I guess I prefer authentic Japanese...

This is my Wife and I’s absolute favorite place for Sushi! We used to go to another place but it sadly closed down so we started coming here and won’t ever look back! Couple of points:

First off, I want to point out the exceptional service. I personally have only been here twice so far (my wife a few more times), but the servers have both been exceptional. My first experience was special as we were celebrating my bell ringing ceremony (just finished chemo). I had finally been approved to eat raw fish by my doctor (can’t eat that on chemo unfortunately and it’s my favorite) so we came here. I told the server my situation and was basically wondering what would be the “freshest”/safest items to get when it comes to raw fish. He informed me that the restaurant gets their frozen fish shipment every 2 weeks and breaks down the fish all in-house. Many other restaurants sometimes buy already cut/cleaned fish (which means it could have been frozen multiple times, lowering the freshness). Also a side note, all fish sold in the US with the intention of being served raw must be flash frozen to a certain temperature to kill any parasites (so you do want it to be frozen at least once). I really appreciated the server taking the time to explain all this to me cause it really made me feel better about dining here! Our second server, Samuel, was just as nice and accommodating. He was friendly, gave us great recommendations and we’ve just had such a great experience with all of the staff. The restaurant manager (or possibly owner, not sure) goes around to make sure everyone is doing well and that’s really appreciated!

Now, the food. Sushi is my favorite food (as I’ve mentioned) so I’ve had a decent amount, in many different places across the country (and San Antonio), but this place is some of the best I’ve had. The fish is extremely fresh and flavorful. I can appreciate both sides of the spectrum when it comes to sushi. I love a good piece of sashimi or nigiri, dipped gingerly in a small amount of soy sauce to accentuate the flavors of the fish. But at the same time, I can dig a deep fried roll topped with extra eel sauce and immersed in spicy Mayo. Sushihana has both types of pallets covered, traditionalist and more Americanized! I’m not usually one to order appetizers but you HAVE to order the Spicy Edamame. Just trust me. My wife recommended it to me and I kinda blew it off (why would I waste valuable stomach space on anything besides sushi) but it’s a must-have now. It’s the best, out of any restaurant, hands down. Honestly, I could eat like 3 lbs of that stuff, it’s so good. We save the sauce it comes with and dip some of our sushi in it. We have also tried their mini chocolate cake/ice cream and that’s fantastic as well.

Definitely give this place a try, I guarantee, you will not be...
