First time my husband I ever been to Shirleyâs. We wanted a quick early morning date because our hours conflict- him nights 12 hours Iâm on early mornings as I come home, heâs getting ready to go -he comes home, I leave for work. Shirleyâs was open 7 am. We had the full order biscuits and gravy ( yumm), 2 eggs with sausage links (yumm) tst and split a side of hashbrowns. The food was hot!!! Not for a minute either it was well at the temperature food should be! Being a chef for many years along with running other restaurants Iâve had my fill of places in the south west of Michigan. Working in the Detroit area up to Gladwin at a resort, I canât help but to critique food especially now with the economy and prices on food. I give Shirleyâs Chuckwagon Cafe 5 stars completely! Clean calm/friendly atmosphere with great tasting, homemade, priced fairly for the portion sized breakfast along with friendly service. Thank youâŁď¸
Canât wait to stay...

The restaurant is out dated, which we didn't mind, but when we said hello to our server we were greeted with silence and menus. You could already tell this lady hated being there. At first I thought maybe she was just really busy or in a rush so we blew it off. The restaurant cleared out while we were there but the rudeness of our server continued for the whole visit. When saying thank you for her bringing our drinks we were met with a "eh". Well at least she was consistent. Very poor service and definitely did not feel welcomed. If you hate serving people don't do that job. Ordered the hamburger and fries special, one without cheese and two with, got charged 3 different prices for each. Food tasted good but the bun was garbage. Very...
Read moreI frequent this little gem regularly. It is a breakfast & lunch only restaurant that has friendly service and great food. The kitchen quickly cranks out orders so be ready to eat in minutes. They have daily specials and rotate homemade desserts. Notable items are their biscuits and gravy and the cinnamon roll pancakes. Their sausage gravy is tasty over fluffy biscuits. The cinnamon roll pancakes are griddled fluffy cakes with crispy edges, topped with homemade glaze. They have plenty of sweet, no syrup needed! They are rich so I like to order one as a side. Be sure to also check out their Prairie French Toast, made with their homemade raisin bread- one of several tasty homemade...
