The newly opened Las Palapas located at the intersection of 1604 and Potranco in San Antonio is a decent option for Tex-Mex cuisine in the area. The restaurant offers a casual dining atmosphere with a laid-back vibe, typical of the Las Palapas chain. The interior is clean and family-friendly, with a mix of booth and table seating as well as patio options.
The menu features standard Tex-Mex fare, including breakfast tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, and combo plates. The breakfast options are a popular choice, with generous portions and decent flavor. The lunch and dinner plates are reasonably priced, though some dishes can be hit or miss in terms of seasoning and freshness. The chips and salsa are a good start, though the salsa was on the milder side.
The ribeye and enchilada plate was tasty, with delicious gravy on the enchiladas. The chicken ranch taco was flavorful, but halfway through we noticed it was slightly undercooked. We order the chips and guacamole to try, but it was never served. Service is generally friendly but can be inconsistent during peak hours, with occasional delays in food delivery. The restaurant maintains a good level of cleanliness, and the staff is attentive when not overly busy.
Overall, Las Palapas at 1604 and Potranco is a solid choice for a quick, affordable Tex-Mex meal, though it may not stand out significantly from other similar restaurants in San Antonio. It’s a reliable spot for familiar flavors but doesn’t offer much in terms of unique or...
Read moreWe went there at about 4 40 pm yesterday to enjoy the nice weather on the patio. The restaurant was very clean inside and out and the staff was very respectful and kind. Our server was named Pepe and he was very personable.
The meal came with free chips and salsa. They were just okay, not very flavorful.
The appetizer we chose was the Sopes plate. I had never tried these delicious tapas before but was blown away by their amazing texture and flavor! They had beans, guac, meat and a perfect base.
I got the LP soup plate that came with a bowl of chicken soup and a flauta. The best part of the dish was the refried beans with melted cheese, it came with flour tortillas to make it into a bean and cheese taco. The flauta was not too flavorful but with sour cream and guac was okay. It was pretty big! As for the soup, I've gotten it at other las palapas and this time the flavor fell flat.
That being said the rest of my family enjoyed their entrees.
Now for the best part: the Sopapillas! These took a little while to come out but it was worth the wait! Soft, warm, fluffy, sweet and oh my the honey drizzle was the perfect touch! For only 3.99 you have to get these!
Overall we left full and happy for the price! You can feed a family of 5, plus get an app and a few soft drinks for around 100 before tip which is great in my book!
However all the food took quite long to come out. This allowed us to watch the sunset and enjoy our time together but just know...
Read moreThis is the closest Las Palapas to me, and I’ve been here about a dozen times since it opened. It's a newer build, probably no more than a year old, and it's become one of our go-to spots for takeout. For that, the experience is solid. The drive-thru moves faster than you'd expect for full meals, and the food holds up well every time.
Dine-in is a different story. The food is still great, no complaints there. It’s one of my wife’s favorite chains, and honestly, their flavors feel like home. We both think their food really represents what San Antonio is about. That said, service is hit or miss. I've had a few times where we were seated and then completely forgotten. Once we waited almost 30 minutes without anyone even taking our drink order. Other times the service is excellent, with frequent check-ins and no issues. So it really depends on who you get that night.
The atmosphere is nice overall. It’s clean, not too loud, and they offer outdoor seating, which is a plus. My only food-related complaint is that this location tends to go a little light on the fajita tacos, but otherwise everything hits the mark.
If I were rating by food alone, it would be close to a five. But with how inconsistent the service can be, I think a 4 is fair. Still worth coming back for, especially if you're...
