Mija Barbecue is a standout local spot just off Beltline Road in Cedar Hill, blending authentic Texican-style barbecue with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed outdoor patio vibe or a comfortable indoor setting, Mija offers great options for both family meals and individual date nights.
One of the first things you’ll notice is the hospitality—the staff is incredibly friendly, and it’s clear they’re locals who care about their community. That personal touch goes a long way in making you feel at home.
We ordered several items to get a good feel for the menu. Right away, the french fries stole the show. They’re seasoned with a bold, unique blend that sets them apart from anything else we’ve had in the Cedar Hill area. Hands down, some of the best fries we’ve tasted locally. Crispy, flavorful, and totally crave-worthy.
The barbecue ribs were tender with a slightly sweet finish that we really enjoyed. The sausage had a decent amount of flavor—solid and satisfying, though not particularly bold. The brisket was moist and tender, paired with a sauce that seemed to be a blend of vinegar-based barbecue and ketchup. It wasn’t bad at all, but if you’re someone who leans toward more robust flavors, places like Spring Creek might have a slight edge in terms of seasoning and depth. Still, Mija holds its own.
The mac and cheese was another hit, especially with the kids. Creamy, cheesy, and clearly made with melted cheese—comfort food done right.
All in all, Mija Barbecue is a great local restaurant with a lot to offer. It’s the kind of place you want to support—not just because it’s in the neighborhood, but because it’s genuinely good. While a few dishes could benefit from a bit more seasoning punch, we still left satisfied and already planning our next visit. The fries and ribs alone are worth coming back for, and with friendly service and a great environment, Mija Barbecue is well on its way to becoming a Cedar...
Read moreDon't get fooled by the wanna be influencers on these reviews that leave 5-star reviews based on the pretty building and the "aesthetic". It was a disappointment given the extra orbitant high prices. I had a brisket sandwich that cost $15.49, and a $4 mason jar-lile serving of sweet tea that tasted of just sugar. While served in a pleasantly renovated building, the food was mediocre. The sandwich was really small, and for the price, I expected the contrary. I also thought some sort of homemade bun would be involved, but no, it was the store-bought variety. A weird acidic flavor to it, and watery, tasteless bbq sauce. It absolutely didn't justify the cost, especially given the fabulous quality of BBQ in Cedar Hill at places like Harris or Phat girlz, which will serve you a bigger, tastier and significantly cheaper sandwich. It just feels like whoever is pricing things has absolutely lost their mind. It feels like they're trying to make up the cost of the renovation in just a few short months, instead of looking at their food and thinking long and hard if the prices they're charging are on par with the quality, and their competition. To add to the frustration, they're asking for tips at a counter where you have to walk up to them. Overall, the experience fell short of expectations, and I wouldn't recommend it to others based on the price-to-quality ratio. It really feels like this is still food-truck-quality food, at prices that not even more established places...
Read moreWent here on a Saturday with my family for lunch around 1pm. Not crowded. The staff was friendly and attentive. We ate inside, as it was a tad chilly out. Inside is quaint with limited seating. Weather permitting, they have several outdoor tables though. Was pleasantly surprised by the food. That brisket is the TRUTH! Tender and perfectly seasoned! Love love love that it wasn't over salted. No need for sauce on the brisket as it is fantastic alone, but the sauce is very good. It pairs excellently with the meat. Been to several bbq spots and the sauces always turn me off, but thats not the case here. Brisket grilled cheese was IMMACULATE! Gimme 14 of 'em right now. I normally hate every Mac n cheese any place has to offer, but this Mac n cheese is wonderful! Perfectly cheesy, not overcooked, well seasoned with a little kick. I always appreciate a hand punched fry fried in tallow. Those fries are the kind you find in small towns- the best kind of fry. My only qualm is the drinks. They are bottled with the exception of the frozen ones. I wish they had fountain drinks to make getting refills easier, so you don't have to keep buying a new bottle. Also offering some sugar subs for the unsweetened tea would be nice. I definitely recommend giving this place a whirl! Good food is hard to find in Cedar Hill, let alone good bbq! I eagerly await my next visit to explore the...
